please come to Cornwall this summer if you have a bus pass

All cornwall buse's are FREE from first thing in the morning including mondays to fridays if you have a senior citizen bus pass.

This might not suit those who are late to bed and late to rise,which does not include me, as it early to bed and early to rise.

Although when we were in Cornwall about three years ago,you could buy a two pound ticket with your bus pass and it was valid all day from first thing in the morning.

My thoughts are that the Cornwall councils will pick up the bill for any bus pass's that are used before the free bus pass's used to kick in at 09:30am?

So I presume not many of these two pound tickets were purchased,so take advantage of visiting cornwall this summer as this concession COULD be removed at any time.

On spotlight local news on Thursday hoteliers were saying that pre-bookings are 30 per cent down on summer 2021.

Which is exactly why it's a relatively low cost thing to provide - few seniors around in the evening either.   It does no harm and a lot of good simplifying the system with no before 09:30 / after 23:00 restriction and it suits everyone - you don't have to use the first bus, which will see its regular commuters and the very, very occasional oldie who couldn't sleep.

IME^▸ (in my experience) a lot of older people like to get things done early in the day.
I recall for example the considerable complaints made by my late Grandmother and friends about the wicked bus drivers who refused to accept free bus passes only just before 09-30.
And the overcrowding on the first bus just after 09-30. My suggestion that most shopping or social trips could be postponed until say 10-30 were met with horror.

A closely related tradition was queueing outside the post office waiting for it to open in order to collect the pension.

I think that my Grandmother missed the early morning queueing after I arranged for the pension to be paid directly into the bank.

I regard myself as NOT being properly old as I have no desire to get up early.

I’m not surprised bookings (why pre-??!!) are 30% down on last year. No flights/holidays abroad, everyone & their dog stayed in the UK^▸ (United Kingdom). So last year & 2020 are likely to be record breakers frankly, and now everyone has ‘done’ the UK, a large number (higher than recently) will choose abroad this year. Get over it, the average year will return m, probaby next year.

I'm looking forward to bookings for UK^▸ (United Kingdom) holidays dropping off a bit more, in the hope that prices and availability will be somewhat better. As an inveterate UK holidaymaker (NOT, please, a staycationer, though I do quite a bit of that too) I'll be glad when I can enjoy the miserable weather and lacklustre hospitality in peace!

Cornwall council removed the restriction in April 2019. Their reasoning was comments from bus operators that the first service after 930 were full and standing and on particular days (Daish’s and Shearings  driver day off in Newquay) leaving people behind on hourly services just after 930 when significant spare capacity was available pre 930.

That lesson should have been applied in Wiltshire.   The experts know it, but of course the none-experts who decide on this or of thing know better!
