This freight working is pathed to depart Brockenhurst Down Sidings at 22:25 (20/2/21) and arriving at Southcote Junction at 0015 (21/2/21) according to Realtimetrains. What is it hauling? Is it an empty stock working?

And on a slightly more serious note ... I suspect that few if any of our members will have a detailed answer for you; in some ways breaks my heart to suggest asking elsewhere, but I think you would be more likely to get the answer on a Facebook Enthusiasts group covering South Western Railways.  Or from the hostmaster at Real Time Trains who in my recollection lived or went to college in Brockenhurst, so would be local.

Researching the sidings, I see a few local trips in the area in the wee hours, and an irregular working; I would suggest an engineering / works train of some sort. Also noting Brockenhurst Signal Bh16 - Service reverses here - 2227 arrival 2230 departure - would suggest it's pretty short.  Top speed 60 m.p.h. Tamper or similar.

Just in case we have anyone on the forum with knowledge / hidden details of this move, I will move the topic to our South Western board as being more specific for the area which will help people find it.

Yep, grahame is pretty much right. Balfour Beatty, 60mph, Diesel Locomotive, On Track Plant, Tamper/Stoneblower - https://live.rail-record.co.uk/train/?c=B35726&d=20/02/2021

I can confirm, its a tamper, often has a sleepover in Brockenhurst down siding, been out to view it a couple of times, when it comes west. had a Chard junction to Wool Mod sidngs last night. Which was one coach long, did not get a close view. We get no freight here at Hinton Admiral, so any thing different makes a change.
