A series of 4 cancellations this afternoon:

Quote
22:46 Castle Cary to Weymouth due 23:47
22:46 Castle Cary to Weymouth due 23:47 will be cancelled.

This is due to a shortage of train crew.
Additional Information
A rail replacement minibus has been arranged to operate between Castle Cary and Weymouth.
Journey times will be increased by up to 60 minutes.
Further Information

Off season, engineering curtailed, lockdown ... I suspect a minibus is adequate!

While reporting ...
20:33 London Paddington to Cheltenham Spa due 22:34
21:58 London Paddington to Bristol Parkway due 23:23
22:30 London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads due 00:04
all cancelled for the same reason.  Staff using up holiday before the end of the year? Not a good evening for a BBQ!

Also a couple of services from London to Weston-super-Mare and Taunton formed of two or three car units from Bristol Temple Meads onwards because of a shortage of IET (Intercity Express Train - replacement for HSTs (manufactured by Hitachi in Kobe, Japan)) drivers.

TO clarify the above - that was 4 services (two round trips) on that line yesterday.   The other three service I mentioned in the same post were in addition - IET (Intercity Express Train - replacement for HSTs (manufactured by Hitachi in Kobe, Japan)) evening trains out of Paddington.

And for today ...

Quote
11:40 Castle Cary to Weymouth due 12:42
13:25 Weymouth to Castle Cary due 14:27
13:25 Weymouth to Castle Cary due 14:27 will be cancelled.
This is due to a problem currently under investigation.

Staff using up holiday before the end of the year?

Yes, I should imagine so.  Plus of course, the increase in prevalence of Covid cases at the moment means more likelihood of staff self isolating.

There are a couple of ToC I deal with who have a number of train crew either of sick with Covid or are having to self isolate due to a family member testing positive.
