Reading to Basingstoke - timetables, 1967

This one has changed a bit in 53 years!

Prior to 1967 the Reading - Basingstoke trains ran through to Southampton Terminus or Central when Terminus closed.  I think this started in June 1962 and I remember using them in my younger days.

Don't you view it as being four trains an hour at present - two none-stop and two calling at intermediate stations?

I (and others, Reading Evening Post?) think in terms of how many trains to Basingstoke. If you live in Basingstoke you probably think in terms of how many trains to Reading. Either way I am thinking in terms of the GWR^▸ (Great Western Railway) service calling at Reading West, Mortimer, Bramley (Hampshire) and Basingstoke.

On reflection, am I writing this from a rather privileged position compared with Melksham.

Is it the similar for most, what I would call, terminus to terminus short distance services? If you live at one end of the service do you (the general public) think that if there are x services in a period to A, then there will x services in a period from A. Are we (coffeeshop members) looking at it from a different perspective?

Depends on the hour, doesn't it? It's four per even hour and three per odd one, during the day. That's what the timetable says, anyway, but obviously subject to short, medium-term, and even longer-term changes now.
