Reading to Gatwick trains have been curtailed to Redhill over the weekend and that continues today.

From Ground Engineering

Quote
Network Rail engineers are tackling emergency work at Salfords, near Gatwick on the Brighton Main Line to secure an embankment.

Significant movement on a section of the embankment was identified by Network Rail monitoring systems and had led to a speed restriction of 5mph.

Stabilisation works carried out over the weekend and today (Monday 11 January) will include sheet piles being installed along the embankment.

Network Rail route director Shaun King said: "We are sorry for any inconvenience this emergency closure may cause the community at Salfords. The safety of passengers is of the utmost importance, so we have taken the decision to close the lines whilst we undertake this vital repair work.?

The train services are expected to run as normal from tomorrow (Tuesday 12 January).

and on journey check - expecting delays to the end of Tuesday rather than the end of Monday

In this case NR» (Network Rail - home page) appear to have gone into action much earlier than at Wanborough - reinforcing the earthwork before it's gone very far. Of course this is a much more important line, and that's a reason to do that - you wouldn't like to lose the line altogether. It also I suspect means it gets the kind of frequent monitoring that can pick up a small shift in levels.

They have shut both Fast Lines north of Salfords, but the shortage of crossovers makes the effect a lot worse. There is only a single route from the Quarry Lines south towards Gatwick serving both directions, and at Gatwick only platforms 1-3 are usable, so in addition to the long-term closure of P5-6 (the temporary P7 seems to be in use), P3-4 & 7 are now u/s too (apart from terminating trans from the south, though that doesn't seem to be the plan).
