The boss of Transport for Wales has admitted he understands passengers' frustration as TfW (Transport for Wales) marks the first year of running the nation's rail services.

Overall, 82% of passengers are satisfied, the same as 2018, according to the latest official survey.

But travellers reported seeing an improvement in how delays have been dealt with since TfW took over from Arriva Trains Wales.

"We've tried very hard," said TfW chief executive James Price.

He recognised there was frustration at the pace of change, with operators "playing catch-up" after damage to trains in last autumn's storms.

TfW brought in trains from elsewhere to plug the gaps, although there will be delays in bringing in 10 new four-car trains for the valleys lines.

Delays to some of the new trains being planned

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-politics-50151983

The class 769 units are not 'new trains'. They are old trains (class 319s) with new tricks (diesel engines added). The class 230 units are also delayed and are also old trains (London Underground D-stock) with new tricks (diesel engines, and batteries, added). I'm not sure if there's a delay to the actual new trains ordered by TfW (Transport for Wales), which have never been expected to enter service before 2021 at the earliest.

Don't DOO (Driver-Only Operation (that is, trains which operate without carrying a guard)) it, keep the guard (but it probably wouldn't be a bad idea if the driver unlocked the doors on arrival at calling points).
