GWR (Great Western Railway) passengers slam 'totally disgusting' morning train covered in vomit and rubbish

EXCLUSIVE: The Great Western Railway service from Didcot Parkway to London Paddington was in a sorry state on Saturday morning, and passengers weren't happy

Commuters were horrified to board a GWR train this morning covered in vomit and rubbish.

Two distinct splatters of vomit had pooled on the carpeted floor of two of the carriages on the 8.02am Great Western Service from Didcot Parkway to London Paddington.

As well as empty beer bottles, cans and fast food wrappers discarded on the floor and not cleaned away before the train disembarked, a bag adorned with cannabis symbols had been left in the aisle.

There was rubbish left on the seats, overflowing bins and other mess on the floor on a train that looked like it hadn't been tidied since the night before.

Vi, a passenger who boarded the train at Twyford, said: "The train was totally disgusting and hadn't been cleaned when we boarded it in the morning.

"There was vomit in two different carriages, empty beer bottles and cans on seats and tables as well as fast food wrappers on seats and tables.

Lots more like this, including comment, description and picture ranging from a full rubbish bin to vomit on the floor and a rather nice shot of a 158 at Bath Spa.

A GWR spokesman said: “We’re sorry our customers had to see this this morning. All our trains are cleaned and checked overnight, and although we are still investigating, this appears to have happened during its first journey out of London early this morning.

“We always try and act as quickly as possible when we are made aware of something like this, locking the carriage out of use if necessary until it can be thoroughly cleaned.”

Maybe a systemic problem here.

On Friday morning my train (can't remember which, think it was 07-45 ex Goring) on this line had not been cleaned and had a lot of the previous night's fast food rubbish on it. The train manager apologised after each station stop on the way into Reading, saying he had summoned a cleaner to join the train at Reading.

Could this be a problem with trains sent on to be stabled overnight at Swindon? Is there a train cleaner problem at present in Reading or Swindon?
