For those interested in how it used to be, Talking Pictures TV ( channel 81 on Freeview) are currently showing quite a few British Transport Film unit films in the afternoons. So far this week there has been "John Betjemin goes by train" - Kings Lynn to Hunstanton "Centenary Express" - featuring 4771 Green Arrow on a special with Sir Peter Parker "Blue Pullman" - self explanatory really! "Railways Forever!" Last steam train with John Betjemin plus a lot of other stuff - double headed warships through Dawlish.
Search your listings carefully for further info, most tend to be only 10 minutes or so, so can easily be missed

It's a fabulous period piece. What a pity the Blue Pullmans ultimately didn't work out.

Not only that...welcomed on board by a fully replesdent chief steward, escorted to your seat and he stows your umbrella and briefcase !. Mark Hopwood please note ! We seem to have gone from one extreme to the other in 60 years, in terms of passenger comfort and service. Think luxury to ironing boards and Perignon to peanuts !

"Snow 1963" is one of my favourites from the good old days. Available on you tube. Note the efforts made to keep the railway open, these days even moderately adverse weather causes chaos. And of course the restaurant. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFoCkzAfZw4

A proper intercity train has a minimum of 8 coaches, gangwayed throughout, with first at one end, and a full sized buffet car between first and standard. It has space for cycles, surfboards, luggage etc. A 5 car DMU▸ is not a proper inter-city train. The 5+5 and 9 car DMUs are almost as bad.

Just finished watching Blue Pullman. First time I've seen it in over 40 years. What a fantastic train, and of course the prototype for lots of bits of the future HSTs▸ . I'm sure also that member BROADGAGE would have loved the 'at seat' restaurant service....

It's okay. With the help of a VPN to circumvent the geographical block I've managed to find the full length version of 'Blue Pullman' on YouTube.

Just watched The Blue Pullman. What a delight!
Nearly every man in the film was wearing either a tie or bow tie. Even the travelling fitters! The chef had a cravat. The only men in the film not sporting neckwear were the p-way gang.
