Addendum .. if you really are embarrassed to ask a question, please send it to me and (subject to it being legal, decent, honest ... and within the Coffee Shop scope ...) I will publish it with anonymously on or around 28th. 

Members use the "personal message" system ... guests are welcome to email me ( graham -at- wellho.net ) so are members - especially if the question is "how do I use the personal message system"  Grin

What do the yellow MLN signs next to the track stand for?

Engineer’s line reference MLN is Main Line (Paddington to Penzance via Bath).  Divided into six sections.

Not in the slightest, Paul ... on the basis that it's become traditional to go out for a Christmas Dinner with colleagues prior to Christmas Day.

I have a handful (of "stupid" questions)  I have been asked or wondered ... only stupid if you already know the answers - worth airing in public if you don't, on national stupid question day.   I am starting / splitting threads to give each question thread space.

Please feel free to post a question you have been asked by a less-train-aware partner / offspring / parent / friend / colleague ..

Stupid (or none-stupid) answers are not limited to the current 24 hours.
