We are seeking a dynamic community rail support officer to advise and inspire community groups across the South* that are engaging local people in their railways and bringing stations back to life. You’ll be joining a small, passionate team dedicated to helping our members make a difference within their communities.

Salary: £26,000-29,000 pa, full time
Location: Home based, with travel across the South*
About this role
This new role will increase our capacity and mean we can support community rail more closely across the South of England* and encourage more ‘community stations’ projects to come to fruition. As well as working with existing members to support them in planning ahead and being effective, you will be tasked with reaching out to wider groups to encourage the expansion of community rail activities. In particular, you will work with rail industry partners to identify opportunities for disused station buildings to be brought back into community use, and support local groups to turn ideas into successful projects, drawing on lessons from other inspiring ‘community stations’ (see examples).
Skills and competencies
Understanding of and experience in community development and community projects, including an appreciation of common success factors and funding streams and opportunities;
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work confidently with stakeholders at all levels; articulate and assertive, and a great team player;
A proven ability to bring partners and groups together, work collaboratively, build and progress joint activities, and form professional networks;
A demonstrable ability to manage your time effectively and juggle a wide range of activities in an organised, professional, productive manner, including planning and scheduling, coordinating with colleagues and external partners, and bringing projects to fruition;
Proactive, positive and self-motivated, able to work on own initiative and inspire and enthuse others, and overcome hurdles to achieve positive results;
Awareness of social and sustainability issues, and an appreciation of the importance of sustainable travel and mobility to communities;
IT literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, the internet and social media.
