I booked some tickets the other day using the GWR (Great Western Railway) website, and, I may be mistaken, but I thought on either the confirmation or email that something was mentioned about waiting 15 minutes before collection.

AFAIK (as far as I know) on a WebTIS powered backend (such as GWR) tickets can be collected immediately - has anyone tried the "order on a phone and collect tickets from a TVM (Ticket Vending Machine) straightaway" thing recently?

I'm not in a position to do so myself in the near future, but will remember to give it a try next time I am to confirm. It's useful where the TVM cannot flog what you want and you are going to be travelling shortly.

Southeastern seem to have changed to this too. Not sure when, but I ordered from them today & noticed it as well. Whether they mean it, or they were immediately available, I don't know as I wasn't able to straight to a TVM (Ticket Vending Machine).

But if it is a change, I'm sure its an anti-fraud measure.

I had trouble getting the GWR (Great Western Railway) website to render on my mobile browser, it seemed to get stuck at one point.

I downloaded the Chiltern Railways app, booked a ticket stood by the TVM (Ticket Vending Machine) and collected it immediately (exact card only BTW (by the way)). That'll do me for the limited times I need that functionality.

Their app is probably the best one I've used as well.

I expect that the tickets are often available nearly instantaneously, but that the 15 minute thing is to cover themselves.

I'm very fortunate that my local station still has a ticket office.
I also pick up my ticket's instantly, although I do have to allow myself a bit
 of extra time.
It does take time communicating with a 'real person' and catching up on all
the latest GWR (Great Western Railway) rumour/gossip.

I expect that the tickets are often available nearly instantaneously, but that the 15 minute thing is to cover themselves.

And so do I. The transfer of information from booking to ATM(resolve) server is probably almost instantaneous. But routine maintenance may cause a gap, making a 15-minute delay written into the website sensible to avoid unnecessary phone calls.
