I was sorry to read on the Witney-Oxford Transport Facebook page that Andrew Wilkins, aka 'Andrew1939 from West Oxon' on the Coffee Shop, has passed away. I didn't know him well but met him a few times at Oxfordshire County Council bus meetings, where he was always a good-humoured and sensible attendee; and of course he was a stalwart of the CLPG» (Cotswold Line Promotion Group - about). Rest in peace.

The big 'C' took him rather quickly. RIP Andrew.

Sorry to hear that - how sad.

I came across him several times at Hanborough station in the mornings, and he was always a mine of information. And the time (then) First Great Western kicked the Hanborough passengers off the grossly crowded 1552 Paddington to Worcester Shrub Hill service at Oxford a couple of years ago, he raised the issue with the Cotswold Line Promotion Group on my behalf and kept me informed with the feedback received.

On behalf of the administrator and moderator team on the Coffee Shop forum, may I offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Andrew Wilkins.

Andrew's many constructive and well-informed posts here on the forum show that he was passionate about railways, and his line in particular, and wanted to contribute to any of our discussions whenever he had something to add to the debate.

He will indeed be sadly missed on this forum, and elsewhere.

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post - a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London, depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.
