Man killed on train tracks is identified
A person killed after being hit by a train yesterday has been identified as a 23-year-old man.
Emergency services were called to the railway line on Sunday afternoon after reports that a man had died.
Police said the person has now been identified and his next of kin have been informed. The incident occurred near Cullompton.
A British Transport Police spokesman said: “BTP▸ officers attended the line close to Tiverton Parkway station on Sunday, January 22, after a report that a man had been struck by a train. Officers from BTP and Devon and Cornwall Police attended the incident, which was reported to police at 5.02pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious. Paramedics from the local ambulance service also attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. A file will be prepared for the coroner. The train involved was the 14:19 Truro to London service.”
Services that were affected by the incident were CrossCountry trains between Plymouth/Exeter St David’s and Birmingham New Street/ Leeds and Great Western Railway trains between Truro/Plymouth and Bristol Temple Meads/London Paddington.
National Rail Enquiries have said that all lines reopened between Exeter St Davids and Taunton allowing trains to run from about 7pm, but delays were expected to continue until around 8.30pm.
