Shouldn't insurance cover it? And if the car is uninsured, MIB.
It was uninsured. Untaxed and no insurance, A change of ownership also recorded approx. 1 month ago, although it received 12 months MOT about 10 days ago.

... and even that current MOT pass would seem to be a little tenuous now, after the vehicle landed fairly heavily on its side in a railway cutting.

William Huskisson MP▸ was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830. Many more have died in the same way since then. Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.
"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner." Discuss.

Men in Black it is, then. Interesting, as NR» were discussing it on twitter as a taxi, and that it can't be recovered until tonight
Still got the meter running, see. On my photography jaunts, I'm never that lucky looking for a safe parking place lineside.
Nor was the guy in the blue motor.

A picture I have seen doing the rounds on Facebook. Assumingly taken by a rail employee, or on a strong zoom from a near by bridge.

Looks as though someone took the nearside topside wheels off to give a couple of inches more clearance.

Or it might account for the vehicle's "interesting" handling if the wheel came off before the incident.

Wondering if the delays (and cost of recovery etc) will be billed to the car's owner.
.....apparently the owner states that he cannot take responsibility for consequential losses

Or it might account for the vehicle's "interesting" handling if the wheel came off before the incident. The fire brigade removed them under a request from Network Rail to gain a few inches clearance.

And then very thoughtfully put the wheel studs back in the hub so as not to lose them.

Any truth in the rumour that they rerailed it, resprayed it in dynamic lines and ran it between Penzance and Exeter a couple of times yesterday?

http://www.westbriton.co.uk/21-year-old-charged-van-tumbles-20ft-rail-track/story-28318999-detail/story.htmlA 21-year-old man has been charged with drink-driving and driving without insurance after a van tumbled 20ft and landed just inches from a railway line in Chacewater. Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to line near Hodges Road after the blue Nissan van was found on its side next to the tracks at around 5.55am on Sunday morning. A spokesman from Devon and Cornwall Police said the van was unoccupied when officers arrived. The force spokesman said: "The driver was located at his home address 21-year-old Connor Tangye has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without the correct insurance." Tangye, of Hugus, near Truro, is due to appear at Truro Magistrates' Court on Monday, December 21. Initially the line, which is the main route for trains to London, was closed as a precautionary measure. Following investigations by rail staff, a test train was sent down the track and passed the vehicle with approximately five inches to spare. The line was re-opened at around noon with trains running a low speed on the track for the remainder of the day. The vehicle was recovered on Sunday night. The police spokesman said no one is believed to have been injured.
