Person hit by CrossCountry train near Cullompton, 31 July 2015

Some difficult journeys for those heading West today - thoughts with all concerned

Due to a person being hit by a train between Taunton and Exeter St Davids all lines are blocked.
Impact:
Train services running through these stations may be delayed by up to 90 mins or diverted. Disruption is expected until 16:00 31/07.
Customer Advice:
Limited replacement road transport will be in operation between Exeter St David's and Taunton in both directions at 15:00. Rail Ticket Holders may also travel on Stagecoach Buses 155 (Exeter St David's train station to Tiverton Parkway and 55a / 55b (Exeter Central to Tiverton). if you wish to use local buses as an alternative means of transport and the local bus is not accepting First Great Western tickets, please keep the bus ticket and send it, together with your rail ticket, to us for a refund. Ticket acceptance will remain in place until further notice.

CrossCountry 0935 Penzance to Manchester Piccadilly was the service involved. Incident occured in the Cullompton area.

10 00 Penzance to Paddington went via Yeovil.

Line re-opened about 1400. XC^▸ 0935 Penzance to Manchester continued, running about 99 late. My brother was on following 12.25 Plymouth to Glasgow HST^▸ which terminated at Exeter St David's. Turned off train, eventually offered bus to Taunton ( as well as 1405 Stagecoach service 155 to Tiverton Parkway ( does it actually serve station?). Sensibly didn't take either but joined 14.04 Paignton to Manchester which is running about 6 or 7 down behind the 09.35 ex PNZ.

XC HST returned to Plymouth in service to pick up later northbound service -15.25 ex PLY^» , I think.

Stagecoach are usually okay for accepting tickets in times of disruption - Control sends out a radio message saying 'please accept until further notice, and keep a note of how many board so we can invoice First!"

I thought the train was taken out of service as a routine after a fatality. Obviously not!

Only continued as far as Bristol Temple Meads. Where there are depot facilities for CrossCountry.
