Not a button I normally use, and not a report I've had before. I tried it out though ... and it worked for me, perfectly as far as I can see.

Questions ...
a) Did you log out and in again as it suggested?
b) If so, did it cure the problem, or does the problem remain?

I get that message wanting me to logout sometimes, I think when I try to post having left the browser open on a page for a long time. Refreshing the page (possibly a hard refresh, which I think is normally Ctrl+F5) normally does the trick.

There are two levels of presence on the forum (and indeed on many other bits of software).

Firstly, you'll have a long-term cookie that recognises you when you return - even after a few days or weeks - if you didn't log out.   And with that set, regular users are able to perform most of their actions.

Secondly, you have a session which times out after (I think) 30 minutes of inactivity.  As admin I need to have logged in to start a new session to do much of that admin work - and that means that at times I log out and then straight back in.

You'll find similar things happen on some online shopping sites - you can return to a site and fill your shopping cart with a longterm cookie, but to confirm / place an order you also need to be logged in via a session.

Thanks people.

It really doesn't cause me any great problems, but I though I'd raise it.

cheers

Do you have something you would like to add to this thread, or would you like to raise a new question at the Coffee Shop? Please [register] (it is free) if you have not done so before, or login (at the top of this page) if you already have an account - we would love to read what you have to say!

You can find out more about how this forum works [here] - that will link you to a copy of the forum agreement that you can read before you join, and tell you very much more about how we operate. We are an independent forum, provided and run by customers of Great Western Railway, for customers of Great Western Railway and we welcome railway professionals as members too, in either a personal or official capacity. Views expressed in posts are not necessarily the views of the operators of the forum.

As well as posting messages onto existing threads, and starting new subjects, members can communicate with each other through personal messages if they wish. And once members have made a certain number of posts, they will automatically be admitted to the "frequent posters club", where subjects not-for-public-domain are discussed; anything from the occasional rant to meetups we may be having ...
