First Great Western has become one of the charity supporters of the Dame Hannah Rogers Trust which supports young and adult disabled people from two sites in Devon.

Today HST▸ (High Speed Train) Power Car 43017 was named "Hannahs" in a ceremony at Exeter St Davids.


FGW▸ (First Great Western) MD Mark Hopwood looks on as Bronwen Hewitt, chief executive of Hannahs, unveils the nameplate

The ceremony came a day after FGW staged its Community Rail Conference at the Trust's Seale-Hayne centre near Newton Abbot.  More details about the charity's work can be found here - http://www.discoverhannahs.org/

William Huskisson MP▸ (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

I was there just in time to hear the last sentence of Mr Hopwood's speech.

All thanks to 'congestion caused by earlier delays' meaning my supposed 1011 arrival, in time for the unveiling at 1015, turned into a 1025 arrival.  Roll Eyes

And in that screengrab bobm is skillfully hiding behind the guy on the right's phone. Grin

It was nice to see after the unveiling that some of the more physically able 'hannahs' young people were invited into the driving cab of the Class 43, with FGW▸ (First Great Western) drivers answering their questions, and allowed the obligatory toot on the horn.  Grin
