last summer we were booked 1st class HST (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) Padd to Bodmin PKWY with onward plus bus tickets to Padstow for a holiday.

we were on a fast PNZ  train via the B&H (Berks and Hants - railway line from Reading to Taunton via Westbury) line, i think maybe the 1006? it was a very hot Sunday.

when we got to Taunton we stood there for a very long time, to be told that we were letting through another train in front of us which so happened was the earlier Padd- PNZ slower stopper HST via Bristol which had got held up...

why on earth they let that stopper through in front of us i have no idea, we crawled to PLY» (Plymouth - next trains)!
in the old days the signalman would have been in big doo-doo.

thus it made us very late into Bodmin and we missed our bus to Padstow (Sunday bus service is every 2 hours)

no worries said the TM (Train Manager, or possibly Ticket Machine, depending on context) he kept us informed after Plymouth that a taxi would be laid on to take us to our hotel.

well done FGW (First Great Western)!
that's how it should be...and we qualified for full delay comp.

BTW (by the way) if we had not had the plus bus tickets then i do not think FGW held responsibility to get us to Padstow.
glad we did!
