last summer we were booked 1st class HST▸ (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) Padd to Bodmin PKWY with onward plus bus tickets to Padstow for a holiday.

we were on a fast PNZ  train via the B&H▸ (Berks and Hants - railway line from Reading to Taunton via Westbury) line, i think maybe the 1006? it was a very hot Sunday.

when we got to Taunton we stood there for a very long time, to be told that we were letting through another train in front of us which so happened was the earlier Padd- PNZ slower stopper HST via Bristol which had got held up...

why on earth they let that stopper through in front of us i have no idea, we crawled to PLY» (Plymouth - next trains)!
in the old days the signalman would have been in big doo-doo.

thus it made us very late into Bodmin and we missed our bus to Padstow (Sunday bus service is every 2 hours)

no worries said the TM▸ (Train Manager, or possibly Ticket Machine, depending on context) he kept us informed after Plymouth that a taxi would be laid on to take us to our hotel.

well done FGW▸ (First Great Western)!
that's how it should be...and we qualified for full delay comp.

BTW▸ (by the way) if we had not had the plus bus tickets then i do not think FGW held responsibility to get us to Padstow.
