Out - next Tuesday afternoon / evening to arrive in Liverpool (Lime Street) at around 8 p.m.
Back - next Friday evening, leaving Liverpool after 6 p.m.

Preferred Wiltshire station - Melksham, and happy to pay up to 10 pound more and / or have my journey up to 120 minutes earlier / later to achieve this (but can't leave Liverpool until 6 p.m.).  One adult, no railcard, over 55 (so can do Club 55). Prefer tickets which are flexible, but can stick to a route if there's a reasonable frequency.

Best fare?

Cheapest route I can find is:

MKM» (Melksham (Station code) - next trains) - WOF (Worcester Forgate Street) - Off Peak Return (Any Permitted) ^25.40
WOF - TAM (Tamworth) - Off Peak Return (Any Permitted) ^14.40
TAM - LIV (Liverpool Lime Street)- Off Peak Return (Any Permitted) ^15.50

Total price, no railcards or discounts attempted (Don't know much about Club 55 given my age) ^55.30 (1-month return)

Return would involve overnight at Cheltenham Spa, so I'd imagine that's not desirable. Unless, of course, you left the morning after?

Thanks for that ... slightly lower than I could find.  Going via Worcester and Tamworth makes for a  longer journey (you comment about the Cheltenham overnight); I'll probably spend slightly more and see if I can back for the last bus on Friday evening rather than stop overnight on the way for the Saturday train.
