Two teenage girls felt "alarmed and uncomfortable" when a fellow train passenger rubbed his groin suggestively.
But despite the incident culprit Farhad Mazumder, 51, walked from Gloucester Crown Court with just a slap on the wrist.
Mazumder, of Ryecroft Street, Gloucester, was on a First Great Western service heading towards the city in September last year when the two girls, aged 16, were targeted by him.
One of them reported Mazumber to police as soon as the train arrived at Gloucester train station, and he was arrested for "outraging public decency", the court was told.
He was aided by a Bengali interpreter.
He denied that he 'committed an act of a lewd, obscene and disgusting nature, outraging public decency, by rubbing his groin over his trousers in the presence of two 16-year old females' on September 28.
But he did admit an offence of public disorder and his plea was accepted.
Julian Kesner, prosecuting, said: "The two girls could see him and were concerned by what they saw."
The court heard that Mazumder had a similar conviction in 2002 which involved hugging a girl "too tightly" while having a photo taken with her.
Tim Baig, defending, said: "He accepts his behaviour on the train was not appropriate in this culture."
Recorder Ben Browne conditionally discharged Mazumder for a year and warned him about his future conduct.
