From FGW (First Great Western) JourneyCheck:

Quote
Line problem: between Severn Tunnel Junction and B... Owing to a person hit by a train between Severn Tunnel Junction and Bristol Parkway all lines are blocked.

Train services running through these stations may be delayed by up to 60 mins at short notice. An estimate for the resumption of normal services will be provided as soon as the problem has been fully assessed.

Road transport is operating between Newport and Bristol Parkway in both directions.

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post - a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London, depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

From the South Wales Argus:

Quote
Delays after person hit by train near Bristol

Disruption is reported on train services between between Newport and Taunton, and between Newport and Reading due to a person being hit by a train at Pilning, just on the English side of the tunnel.

All lines are blocked through the Severn Tunnel and journey times are extended by up to an hour. First Great Western does not have an estimate for a normal service.

Not clear whether this sad incident was at Caldicot or Pilning.

It was between Severn Tunnel Jn station and the Tunnel Portal.
Believed to have run down the embankment from/near Caldicot Station.
