1  Journey by Journey / London to the West / Re: Help please- Bath to Liskeard on Wednesday Evening - Do I need to avoid XC on: July 29, 2010, 22:29:52
I recently travelled on the 10:48 Penzance to Paddington in the Pullman Restaurant, which was rather quiet. But is there any chance of a standard class passenger getting a seat on the 18:03 Paddington to Penzance, or would it be heavely booked by 1st class passengers.
2  Journey by Journey / Swindon to Gloucester / Cheltenham / Re: Cheltenham Spa to Paddington on: May 31, 2010, 22:34:52
If Cheltenham Spa had an hourly service to London, (direct) it could call at all stations in the Stroud valley including Gloucester, but making up time by running non stop Swindon-London or non stop Swindon-Reading rather than non stop Swindon-Cheltenham Spa as it would miss all the Stroud and Gloucester commuters. plus Swindon-Gloucester isn't fit for 90mph+ running.I think  Wink
3  Journey by Journey / Swindon to Gloucester / Cheltenham / Re: Cheltenham Spa to Paddington on: February 14, 2010, 19:46:11
I would think an hourly service from Cheltenham Spa to London Paddington would be much more convenient, as Cheltenham Spa is a main destination and it would mean that you wouldn't have to change at swindon and get a 2 carrige DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) for nearly half the full journey. It also means that the present DMUs could provide a better service on other lines, like the Avocet (Branch line from Exeter to Exmouth) Line! Cheltenham could also do with a Travelling Chef service.
4  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: SWT 158 on: February 14, 2010, 18:40:08
I have heard that it worked the 15:54 service from Swindon to Cheltenham Spa.
5  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / SWT 158 on: February 13, 2010, 13:14:22
Does anyone have the diagrams for the SWT (South West Trains) 158 that FGW (First Great Western) have got?
6  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: East Coast on: February 06, 2010, 11:50:23
I would prefer if GC» (Great Central Railway - link to heritage line) had a class 67 hauled servive or something like that! Rather than 5 car 180s. At least they have managed to keep their HSTs (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)).
7  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: East Coast on: February 06, 2010, 09:41:22
I may be travelling from London to Edinburgh with East Coast, but I don't know whether I should travel on a HST (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) or a 225. What would you recommend?
8  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Atlantic Coastline Express on: February 02, 2010, 20:01:00
I thought Truro would be a good stop as it serves a main city, but I am surprised to hear that it has a non-stop run from Exeter to Reading. Surely people from the Kennet valley( Newbury, Kintbury etc.)would use the service.
9  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Atlantic Coastline Express on: January 31, 2010, 19:12:33
Some people are saying that this year's 'Atlantic Coastline Express' from
London Paddington to Newquay will call only at: Par, Plymouth, Newton Abbot,
Exeter St. Davids and London Paddington. Is this true?
10  Sideshoots - associated subjects / The Lighter Side / Re: Cheapest point to point fare on: January 27, 2010, 19:37:49
How about the standard class from Worcester Shrub Hill-Worcester Forgate Street?
11  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: First Class food on: January 22, 2010, 21:12:43
The food FGW (First Great Western) has is excellent compared to some other operators like XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise))
with trolleys going all the way from Penzance-Aberdeen. Shocked I would love to hear other people's views on Fgw food, and thank you for a warm welcome to the Coffe Shop! Smiley
12  Journey by Journey / London to Swindon and Bristol / Re: RE: HST Speed on: January 22, 2010, 20:54:06
From what I know, most HST (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) services only go above 100 mph somwhere between
Swindon and Paddington. If I am right! Wink
13  Journey by Journey / London to Swindon and Bristol / Re: RE: HST Speed on: January 21, 2010, 21:00:22
Thanks, I was just wondering as I somtimes travel down that route.
14  Journey by Journey / London to Swindon and Bristol / RE: HST Speed on: January 21, 2010, 20:41:45
What is the top speed experinenced on a HST (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) from Cheltenham Spa to London Paddington and where would you experience it?
15  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: First Class food on: January 21, 2010, 20:04:47
In First Class, is the hot food from the exprees cafe i.e. Mushroom Stroganoff served on a plate?
