1  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Could the train manager please ask people to close the doors AND windows? on: January 16, 2010, 23:16:23
I've noticed TMs(resolve) explictly asking passengers to close doors on exit (in order to speed up departure).  Wouldn't it be nice if they added '...and please close the window' afterwards?  I'm tired of getting up and shutting them to keep the -30 wind out between stops  Angry
2  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: National Rail iPhone app on: January 10, 2010, 22:16:24
Nice one Donkey Guard  Cool

The only way is to leave app, go to website and book (which is damn near impossible on iPhone).  Pity.  Ah well.

iPhone app aside, FGW (First Great Western) booking is effective but not very intelligently designed interface.
3  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / National Rail iPhone app on: January 10, 2010, 00:04:50
I'm a iPhone user and have the National Rail app (price ^5.99) - have to say, it's an amazing piece of software.  Lets me track live arrivals and departures from every station in the UK (United Kingdom), plan trips, find next train home from wherever I am in the country.

It earned its purchase price back before Christmas when it alerted me to the cancellation of my nomal train home. If I hadn't know that, I would have been stranded.

One thing occurred to me the other day after spending my usual 15 complicated minutes booking my weekly advance travel on the FGW (First Great Western) website...  surely someone's missing a trick here.  Why isn't there a 'one-click' option on the iPhone app (with card details already stored etc) that books with the relevant operator and makes buying simple?

Anyone else use this app and had same thought?

OMG (Oh My doG ) - what lengths will people go to??  I'm a bit of a scam-buster, so thanks for alerting me to this, will have to keep an eye out for it.

...lols except on the First Class journey to Paddington I was on the other week.  No hot beverages for 'health and safety reasons' which turned out to be they'd run out of paper bags to put the drinks in.   Grin

Next time I hear someone shout "I'm on the train...", I'm going to add "...in the quiet carriage" at the same volume Embarrassed

The problem is the same as any 'anti-social' behaviour: it's always down to whether or not we have the courage to challenge the offender and ask for what we need.  I sometimes do but sometimes I feel intimidated and don't.

When I have, I've never yet been abused or attacked - even though the offender usually has some reaction to being asked to stop.

I agree with others here that the slapping of the PC keys is the worst.  It's a kind of insane, frantic, angry sound that (for some reason) really puts me on edge.  I hate it.

It's really difficult for any of us, train manager and customer alike, to challenge people who are deliberately or unconsciously breaking the 'quiet carriage' rules - and it isn't helped that the 'request' by FGW (First Great Western) is inconsistent and badly communicated.
9  All across the Great Western territory / Introductions and chat / Hi everyone on: January 08, 2010, 17:57:28
My name's Sam, travel FGW (First Great Western) Plymouth to London usually 18:00 Mon, back 19:45 Thur.  Work in a change consultancy in London that uses pictures to work with difficult issues.  Southeastern was a client of ours, so know a bit about the TOC (Train Operating Company) context.  I'm also involved in online reputation management and often blog / Tweet about FGW and other companies.  Totally agree with the whole approach of this forum, very pleased to see how respectfully it is set up and organised.

Leaves me feeling that a) it will be a useful resource for me to find out information I need and b) that FGW should, if they have any sense, be involved.

If you do a Google search for "First Great Western customer service" you'll find my post about half way down (titled "First Great Western customer service: going the extra mile in the snow")

Look forward to meeting / talking with you - maybe even meeting up on a train some time (Twitter is a great way to do that)

Cheers!
