1  All across the Great Western territory / Introductions and chat / Re: I'm Running The Bristol Half Marathon - To Support Help For Heroes! on: July 20, 2010, 07:07:36
Blimey!  Hello again, Shazz!  Shocked

Just for the record: while we are generally wary about accepting any 'advertising' posts on the Coffee Shop forum (see the forum agreement), I'm happy that this one is a valid exception to that particular rule.

Chris.

I hope so to, as it's something that I'm definitely doing!
2  All across the Great Western territory / Introductions and chat / I'm Running The Bristol Half Marathon - To Support Help For Heroes! on: July 19, 2010, 22:39:34
So, it's been a long time since I last posted here... Wink

I've set my self the ambitious target of raising ^1,310 for H4H. This is ^100 for every mile I^ll be running in the Bristol Half Marathon! I've setup a page on JustGiving for any of you guys who'd like to donate to this worthy cause! Richard Shirley is fundraising for Help for Heroes - JustGiving Smiley

What is H4H all about? It^s about the blokes, our men and women of the Armed Forces. It^s about Derek, a rugby player who has lost both his legs, it's about Carl whose jaw is wired up so he has been drinking through a straw. It^s about Richard who was handed a mobile phone as he laid on the stretcher so he could say goodbye to his wife. It is about Ben, it^s about Steven and Andy and Mark, it^s about them all. They are just blokes but they are our blokes; they are our heroes. I want to help our heroes.

This is where you guys come in! Help 4 Heroes have already raised ^20,000,000 to build a new state of the art network of Army Recovery Centres. However, H4H has pledged to raise another ^20,000,000 to support our injured troop^s pathway towards recovery. The Recovery Pathway is all about making the most of each person^s potential. It is not about what they can^t do but it is about what he or she can. Everyone on the path therefore will be assessed as to their potential and ambition and then helped to achieve of their best.

This is a big target and I need the help of a lot of people to achieve this goal, so I ask you to dig deep and donate now. 100% of your donation (128% if you tick the Gift Aid box) will go to the Help for Heroes Charity. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they^ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK (United Kingdom) taxpayer.

Thanks for stopping by and PLEASE make your donation NOW, every pound raised makes a real difference!

P.S. If you want to keep track of my progress, I'll try and update this thread and my facebook group regularly! I've also got a bit of a blog on the go! Cheesy

tbh why anyone would want to go to the likes of cardiff

I'd go and see the WHOLE of Cardiff then, It's far from a dump.
4  Journey by Journey / London to South Wales / Re: Local businessman proposes ^1m 'Cardiff Parkway' on: May 01, 2009, 00:26:30
Pretty poor use of money/an idea if i'm honest.

Being a cardiff resident, theres absolutely nothing wrong with the station we have now...

It's was more blunt and to the point than hars i think you'll find Wink

Note for any readers unfamiliar with the London to South Wales service - there are two trains an hour from London to Cardiff, with one of them carrying on to Cardiff.  Only the short workings are suspended throughout the day - the longer workings to Cardiff are running.

Wrong.

Both trains go to cardiff, with hourly extensions to swansea.
7  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: Newquay and Plymouth Airports - their rise and fall - ongoing discussion on: February 01, 2009, 18:09:52
Won't happen.

Especially as the owners of ASW own plymouth airport...

Plus this wouldnt be the first MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post - a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London, depending on context) that had no idea what they're talking about
8  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Self-service collection glitch on: January 02, 2009, 17:35:46
give someone at the ticket desk your card you booked on, and ask if you can collect your tickets.

thats how it works in arriva territory anyway...
9  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: FGW HST WiFi on: January 02, 2009, 02:11:25
to be fair 3g broadband isn't exactly expensive thesedays, and anyone who needs it probably has it for commuting now anyway...

Cardiff bay?
11  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture in the United Kingdom / Re: Christmas and Boxing Day trains - ongoing discussion on: December 18, 2008, 21:46:47
No there should not be a boxing day service. It's 1 of the few days a year i see no need for it. If it's football then the roads are fairly dead (unless its near a mall). Then there's no excuse to not drive...

As around 60% of people are still going to be at home on boxing day, so again what's the point? Most people would rather bee with friends / family for another rare day they're not working than on a train Wink
12  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in South and West Wales / Re: New faster North to South Wales Service on: December 16, 2008, 11:11:23
Plus it's never going to be able to compete with a 50 minute flight from cardiff to anglesey.
13  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: Newquay and Plymouth Airports - their rise and fall - ongoing discussion on: December 12, 2008, 10:55:29
Just for interest Flybe fares will start from ^29 one way under cutting the current Air Southwest offering by ^10.Needless to say Air South West are not happy about Cornwall County Council letting in Flybe at Newquay. With 7 or 8 daily flights from Newquay to Gatwick from mid February one wonders what effect this will have on railway business from Cornwall given that the number of intermediate station stops on many Penzance/Paddington services is now mind boggling.

Not like the council have much of a choice. i'd suspect flybe would get the competition comission involved if they blocked it. And at the end of the day it's in the best interest of the customers, and would lead to flybe getting in anyway...

That and i'm sure it would annoy flybe and make them cut there summer schedule significantly to newquay
14  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: More distorted ticket prices on: December 10, 2008, 13:08:10
You think thats bad. FGW (First Great Western) wanted ^272 for an anytime return for 2 adults from BPW» (Bristol Parkway - next trains) > paddington for next week,

I think not.
15  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in South and West Wales / Re: Cardiff to Holyhead service on: December 08, 2008, 22:41:12
Believe all north-south services are booked for 175s.

Nope.

still an abundance of 158's on the service.
