Still cancellations particularly for Didcot services.

Points failure at Slough this morning.
From the rerouting I suspect it’s on the main line

Bust track at both Hanwell and Ealing Broadway.
Everything is delayed. Yay.

Ah Southall was it?!
2hrs to get home to Maidenhead tonight via Elizabeth Line tonight including getting retrained at Slough so that the empty train could arrive at Reading faster.

Interesting to see how the timetabling and track priorities shift over the evening. During rush hour the Didcot services were running fine and the Elizabeth Line trains ran slow with 40min delays. Now, at the end of the day, Didcots are cancelled and tfl is running ok(ish)

Delays due to defective track. Non-specific location.

And the Elizabeth Line was bust this evening too.

My gripe for this evening is with (one of) the gateline crew at Paddington. There must have been 1000 people queuing for the 18.20 to Didcot.  The gateline team were checking all paper tickets and turning away anyone with a TFL (Transport for London) ticket. That included a woman ahead of me who had a 2/3 year old child in that throng.

Where is the sense or humanity in turning that woman and child away, who arguably had a valid ticket, and who then had to battle through the ongoing masses to wait god knows how long for a TFL service.

I’m off to complain to GWR (Great Western Railway) on her behalf.

[I thought I’d added some smiley faces to my comment to indicate that I’d taken the earlier reply in a positive, amused manner]  Cheesy

I just knew that that would be the point that would be picked up on

My wife is on the 7.37 from Maidenhead (having waited 30mins for a service)and is reporting it as dangerously overcrowde.
Driver has apparently decided to make additional stops at Iver etc. not that anyone waiting can actually board the train.

We must ask Daryn McCombe, Director of Performance at GWR (Great Western Railway), when we meet him online here on the Coffee Shop forum at 14:30 on Thursday 3 October 2024.  Grin

Was he booked to attend on 13th June but delayed due to travelling in the Thames Valley?
11  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Thames Valley infrastructure problems causing disruption elsewhere - 2024 on: July 31, 2024, 19:23:38
Due to a broken down train between London Paddington and Slough fewer trains are able to run on all lines.
Train services running to and from these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 21:00 31/07.
Customer Advice
We are sorry for the delay to your journey today.

Can you tell me more about the incident?
Due to a broken down freight train in the Acton Main Line area, we currently cannot run our full train service.

My information was coming from Journeycheck which was showing cancellations to Didcot services around lunchtime, plus the Elizabeth Line cancellations due to the overrunning engineering works.

As it came to pass I took the 19.20 Didcot service, arriving 11 mins late at Maidenhead.  11mins is quite a long delay on an 18min planned journey time.

Already eyeing my return commute for this evening and note cancellation of 50% of Elizabeth Line and almost all GWR (Great Western Railway) services due to ‘warm track syndrome’.

Both GWR and TfL» (Transport for London - about) are suggesting that commuters use the other’s service….

Firstly, OMG (Oh My doG - Teenage expression of mock surprise, normally used in social media posts).

But I am curious as to how the issue at Twyford was resolved?  Was everyone left to wait in the rain or were coaches provided?

My view is that ‘incident mitigation actions’ and ‘service recovery actions’ are focused upon minimising Delay Repay payouts, hence cancelling services rather than incurring delays.
