1  Journey by Journey / London to Swindon and Bristol / Re: GWR Overcrowding on: May 25, 2018, 06:23:13
GWR (Great Western Railway) sponsors the Meridian weather forecast on the ITV so the Famous Five get an airing at least twice at peak time between 1800 and 1900.
2  Journey by Journey / Chiltern Railways services / Cup Final Day on: April 02, 2017, 08:23:29
Oxford United football club are playing Coventry in the final of the Checkatrade Trophy at Wembley this afternoon.  Chiltern are running a much augmented service between Oxford and Wembley

Can't see any extra trains from Coventry
3  Journey by Journey / Chiltern Railways services / Blenheim [for Woodstock] on: November 26, 2016, 10:00:28
On 10 December Oxford Bus Co extend the Park+Ride route 500 northwards from Oxford Parkway via Kidlington and London (Oxford) Airport to Blenheim Palace and Woodstock.  I
This is a brilliant, low-cost initiative to bring many new journey opportunities and so far as I can tell is being done as a commercial operation without council subsidy.

4  Journey by Journey / Chiltern Railways services / Re: Railfuture Meeting Oxford - Network Rail 16 November on: November 26, 2016, 09:53:10
I was not able to make it to this Railfuture meeting. Did anyone from here attend, and  what happened?
5  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Oxford / Bicester to London from December on: November 25, 2016, 19:36:54
I was just wondering what happens when Chiltern trains start public running between Oxford and Marylebone shortly.  If I buy, for example, a cheap day return from Oxford to London, is it valid via either Reading or Bicester. If so, would it be valid out by one route and return by the other?

From London to Bicester are fares the same to Bicester North as Bicester Village via Reading or High Wycombe?

Will fares from Oxford Parkway be the same as from Oxford [Botley Road] station?  Does the Botley Road station acquire a suffix to differentiate it from Parkway?  I don't think it has ever had one before, even when the LMS (London Midland Scottish - 1923 to 1948) had Rewley Road station next door.

Too many questions . . .

Just noticed one more typo:

individual advise on ticketing   should be individual advice on ticketing

advise = verb; advice = noun.

Well, you did invite . . . Smiley
9  Journey by Journey / London to Didcot, Oxford and Banbury / Re: Oxford Station - improvements, incidents and events (merged topic) on: May 16, 2016, 17:55:42
The down platform at Oxford in Realtime Trains today seems to have an identity crisis, being referred to occasionally as 2, occasionally as 4.  Looking ahead, it appears to be consistently platform 4.  I imagine this means that the new platform for Chiltern trains will be known as platform 2?
10  Journey by Journey / Cross Country services / Re: Where are unreserved seats on XC HST? on: May 06, 2016, 08:17:54

11  Journey by Journey / Cross Country services / Where are unreserved seats on XC HST? on: May 05, 2016, 08:53:14
A friend is travelling tomorrow from Birmingham to Newton Abbot, and wants to travel on the 1317 from New Street, which appears to be an HST (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)). No reservations are available, so can anyone kindly advise where the unreserved seats are on a XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) HST. Thanks.

To avoid any ambiguity -- reservations are/were available on this train but they appear to have all been taken up.
12  All across the Great Western territory / Looking forward - the next 5, 10 and 20 years / Re: Intercity Express Programme (IEP) - ongoing discussion on: December 23, 2015, 09:06:09
Is this the rolling stock manufacturing plant in Italy that produced rolling stock for the Dutch-Belgian Fyra high-speed service that was of such quality that the trains were rejected and sent back?
13  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: Stagecoach launch Gloucester - North Bristol express service on: March 26, 2015, 07:24:53
As far as I understand it, Oxfordshire passengers with Old Gits cards can use London express services as far as Lewknor Turn but no further. Don't know how this hybrid solution was arrived at.
14  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Up platform at Oxford blocked on: February 18, 2015, 07:10:44
According to Realtime trains, 1P07 Worcester - Paddington arrived at Oxford at 0624 and stood in the up platform for half an hour, going forward at 0655.
The following train, 2P20 Banbury - Paddington stopper, "called" on the up main 0641-0642 and then proceeded towards London. I guess there was no boarding or alighting, and passengers on the train wanting to get off at Oxford were carried on to Radley or Didcot?
Can anybody cast any light on what happened?  I don't recall this ever happening before, though stand to be corrected . . .
Could the stopper have run into platform 3, then reversed out and carried on on the up main?

I think the Rev Teddy Boston's line in the rectory garden at Cadeby (1962) must be one of the earliest? See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edwin_Boston
