All across the Great Western territory / Your rights and redress / Delay repay missed connection
|

Hi, I was on a journey from Newton Abbot to St Ives, which required a change of train at St Erth. The time between connections was 17 minutes, but my train arrived into St Erth 19 minutes late, so I missed the connection and had to wait for the next train. As the branch line train between St Erth and St Ives runs every 30 minutes, the overall delay to my journey was 30 minutes exactly. I put in a claim, but GWR▸ said they will only pay out for a 15-29 minute delay. I disputed this but GWR are sticking to the 15-29 minute delay. Is this correct? the sums involved aren't great, it's more of a principal thing

All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Advance fares to PAD from NTA on 15th May
|

Hi all, does anyone know why advance fares are not available for travel to PAD» from NTA» on the early train services on 15th May? I assume it is maybe something to do with the ongoing engineering works, but subsequent weeks do have advance tickets available for these services.
If they're not put up soon I'll have to book a flight from Exeter instead.
Thanks in advance Jon

I buy advance fares on my route from NTA» to PAD» as soon as they are available and have been doing so for the past 6 years. Prices are constantly on the rise at the moment, and have gone up another ^10 this week. Six months ago I was paying ^85 return, now it is ^142. Well enough is enough for me, from now on I will be flying back. I'll save ^40 and get home quicker. If that goes well I might even fly up, but the morning flight is a little earlier than I want EXT to LCY, by chance? Yes. I came on here to give another update, as my outbound journey has had about the 4th rise this year, and is now up from ^62 to ^83. If this is repeated next week I'll be switching to flying both ways. My first LCY-EXT flight is in 4 weeks time, and I have to say I'm looking forward to getting home an hour and a bit earlier

All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Advance fare increase with new timetable?
|

I've found the same thing on the route/times I travel. Std class NTA» -> PAD» on 0631 has been around ^31-^45 mark for years (recently ^37). It is now ^75, or if I'm lucky ^55! I also travel back on the 1945 from PAD and have noticed across the board increases in fares for STD and 1st advance ticket prices. After putting up with a couple of months of driving back and forth to Tiverton Parkway at my own expense due to the disruption at Dawlish, it does seem a bit of a kick in the teeth! Can anyone shed any light on the apparent increase in ticket prices S.Wales > London which appears to be related to the new Summer timetable?
I've checked my usual weekly trip, booking with advance first tickets for the following journeys:
PAD > BGN 9th May d15.45 & BGN > PAD 12th May d8.01, total ticket price ^111.10
PAD > BGN 20th June d15.45 & BGN > PAD 23rd June d7.56, total ticket price ^212.80
Anyone know why there is such a huge difference in ticket prices? I've checked for various dates travelling at the same times and found a similar difference so I'm sure this can't be a simple supply & demand issue - the later journey is about as far in advance as tickets can be purchased so advance availability should be good & Standard class tickets have also jumped up for the same journeys, from ^80.60 to ^109.50. Prices are as of about 1pm today (10/4/2014).
Would be interested to know if anyone else has noticed this on other routes, if anyone has any information from FGW▸ about planned or sanctioned fare increases or if this is a result of the way in which advance tickets are released for sale.
title changed to reflect question more accurately

I have an advance ticket for travel tomorrow from Paddington to Exeter. Does the lifting of ticket restrictions mean that I could use that ticket today? With the bad weather forecast for tomorrow I am considering travelling back early
This note issued to staff would seem to suggest you can Any customer holding a valid ticket for travel on today or any date up to and including Sunday 16th February may choose to use that ticket on any of these dates (at any time of day) without additional charge. This also applies to those customers who may have held over their journey from Monday 10th, Tuesday 11th or Wednesday 12th February.
Thanks bobm

Hi, I have an annual parking pass for Newton Abbot station, and I've already booked my train travel for the next 10 weeks or so from NTA» to PAD» . I've no desire to get bus transport from NTA to Exeter each week. What are the chances of me being able to park in Exeter St Davids using my NTA pass whilst the disruption is ongoing? I realise this is probably a matter for Apcoa rather than FGW▸ , but I'd hope that they'd have put some sort of arrangement in place whilst the line is closed. Any thoughts?
As an update, I rang Apcoa parking this morning and they were completely unhelpful. They said if I wanted to park at Exeter I would have to buy a new ticket. I can get a refund on my Newton Abbot ticket, but as they only refund whole months, and charge a ^40 fee for the privilege, there is no point doing so until my current month ends (4/3). Hopefully by then I'll have a better idea of how long the Dawlish repairs will take, and know if it is worth cancelling my pass

I'd post the enquiry on their Facebook page if you can - as the answer would be of interest to others. If you have no Facebook account, I'd email customer services & ask. Can you post their reply here too please? I've emailed both FGW and Apcoa. I'll update this post with any responses I receive
