In answer to Taplow Greens question. It should be the case that the 387s pick up some of the Turbo work in the Thames Valley hence the 1718 reverting to Turbo operation. As Industry Insider has stated quite clearly the original plan set out by the DFT (Department for Transport) and NR» (Network Rail - home page) along with the relevant TOCs (Train Operating Company) hasn't gone exactly to plan.

An interesting concept by GWR (Great Western Railway) this year after the success of the WSR Autumn gala:

05:11 from WOS» (Worcester Shrub Hill - next trains) was on one engine only (OEO (One Engine Only)) and it was decided that it wouldn't make it up the bank east of Honeybourne. Hence the delays in the Evesham area whilst the set returned to WOS.

As some may have seen GWR (Great Western Railway) have yet another through ticketing product to a preserved railway that operates from a GWR station. The text below is from the Wallingford Rover leaflet available from some manned stations in the Thames Valley region:

Quote
The heritage that is preserved on this Branch line is entirely down to volunteers and in light of this GWR have worked with The Cholsey & Wallingford Railway to offer this exciting new product for customers. After seeing some leaflets and information on FB, GWR (Great Western Railway) are running 150247 from Taunton through to Minehead this coming Sunday to launch a new inclusive ticket aptly named the WSR AWAY DAY, for more information there is a dedicated Eventbrite page: wsrawayday.eventbrite.co.uk

One wonders if this sevice carrys a fair few passengers then it could be the start of something more regular between Taunton & The WSR rather than the 28 bus!
9  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: Wilderness Festival, Cornbury Park, 7 to 10 August 2014 - Travel Advice on: August 09, 2014, 18:28:09
Not sure how 1W21 caused delays for the WHOLE Day (Headscratch) it delayed itself in which was 180103 and also 1P35 awaiting single line at Charlbury. The delay to 1W23 was caused by a loss of air at Paddington and was 19 late departing as a result. 1Z30 was cancelled by NR» (Network Rail - home page) as far as I'm aware. Then with heavy passenger loadings the delays came back. And 180103 again had problems & failed at Reading whilst working 1W47 15:52 Paddington - Worcester service. This meant 1P77 was also cancelled as a result. Two train loads on 17:22 Ex Padd with 852 people counted leaving the HST (High Speed Train) at Charlbury. Extra buses have been implemented to help with loadings because of Wilderness but also for Rail Replacement use. Because they are implemented by FGW (First Great Western) they are not allowed to enter the site for one reason or another hence the transfer at Charlbury Stn.
10  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: Proposed May 2015 timetable changes on: July 27, 2014, 01:08:23
Strange how we are discussing 180 use at weekends when due to disruption on Friday 25th 180106 formed 1W75 from Oxford and STABLED at Worcester then formed 1P26 from S.Hill through to Paddington on the Saturday.
11  Journey by Journey / London to Didcot, Oxford and Banbury / Re: Two-coach Oxford-London fast train on: July 27, 2014, 01:02:19
It's true. Once the competition starts, FGW (First Great Western) will need to up their gain on this service - currently treated as a Cinderella service.

The Chiltern service will only take 6 minutes longer (and be cheaper, more reliable, more comfortable, etc).

For passengers using parkway, it will quick on Chiltern.

Now you've lost me too !! FGW Already have competition from Oxford with the coach services along the motorway. Not sure unless your involved with the fares structuring how the Chiltern service will be cheaper :?
12  Journey by Journey / London to Didcot, Oxford and Banbury / Re: Two-coach Oxford-London fast train on: July 25, 2014, 14:06:52
A train is a train. Remember HSTs (High Speed Train) take longer to accelerate than Turbos and even 180s. As the case for timings on a certain train that's now 180 operated vice HST. This service has been speeded up by 30mins.

Completely unacceptable. All Oxford fasts should be an HST - especially those from the Cotswold line.
13  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: Proposed May 2015 timetable changes on: July 23, 2014, 14:07:46
With the Turbos finally getting there C6 treatment at Wolverton I.e 166221 which was in the West Yard at Reading the 08:22 shouldn't be too bad. But these are provisional. Although I'm quite surprised to see that 180s haven't been implemented on Weekend work.
14  Journey by Journey / London to Didcot, Oxford and Banbury / Re: Two-coach Oxford-London fast train on: July 21, 2014, 08:04:17
Yep 150002 has gone down Exeter to strengthen the West fleet. Still loco hauled would be much preferred.
15  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / The Queen at Reading Stn today 17/07/14. on: July 17, 2014, 11:18:49
The Queen is apparently at Reading Stn today to officially open the refurbished station and possibly Reading Depot. The big rumour part is that 166221 the newly refurbished turbo is to be named by The Queen and named Reading Traincare Depot. Can anybody else confirm this or add any light on these possible events ?
