1  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: A new era dawns on the TransWilts - 08 Dec 13 on: December 12, 2013, 10:21:04
I travelled on the 14.14 from Westbury yesterday, one of about half a dozen passengers, and while I appreciate it is hardly likely to be the busiest train of the day I was truly appalled - at neither Westbury or Swindon, apart from the times on the departure sheets, there was absolutely no publicity whatsoever for the increased service, and as far as I could see nothing on any of the intermediate stations.

From memory I thought a 158 only just fitted platform 2, but having looked at photos  a 153 would fit on top.  The SA says 80 metres so you cannot accommodate anything other than a 153 on top of a Cl.158.

I don't think I have ever seen an fGW TAA before the deadline for my TRUK (trailer, restaurant, unclassified, kitchen) article - usually I have to search for a copy of the fGW poster and then get the article edited!
;
In fact the whole track access procedure is to my mind total nonsense - CrossCountry only got round to matching the track access contract to the service they ran from the start of the franchise in August this year, and the additional GC» (Great Central Railway - link to heritage line) KX-Bradford which went to the disputes panel who decided (or didn't according to East Coast's interpretation) that they must be given the 16.08 KX-Newark's path now turns out to just require the latter to run one minute later!
'
Incidentally the platform working shown in RTT» (Real Time Trains - website) at Swindon doesn't work - unless both these and the Gloucester locals are going to be 153s.
4  Journey by Journey / London to Didcot, Oxford and Banbury / Re: September timetable changes on: September 09, 2013, 12:41:34
An alternative would perhaps have been to hire one of the grossly underused XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) sets.
;
EMT» (East Midlands Trains - about) could provide one too, although the Paxman engines might be a problem (as well as raising the question as to exactly why fGW sets have to have those dreadful seats).

A poster at Oxford lists service changes from 2nd September - the 06.40 Bristol-Paddington is withdrawn.
Does this mean en extra HST (High Speed Train) working on a morning Thames Valley service?
6  Journey by Journey / Cross Country services / Re: Cross Country industrial action - August 2009 (merged topics) on: August 18, 2009, 13:21:04
In BR (British Rail(ways)) days Sundays were rostered outside the standard week.  In my personal experience the roster clerk woud attempt to cover any Sundays "thrown-in" rather than providing your own cover, and if he/she couldn't you were expected to work - I seem to recall this being backed up by either a court case or an employment tribunal when someone got religion.
;
Somewhere along the line at some TOCs (Train Operating Company) they have become voluntary, presumably the HR (Human Resources) people employed by the bus bandits failed to see that the substantial increases to basic rates post-privatisation  meant that staff no longer relied on the Sunday pay.
