1  Journey by Journey / London to Kennet Valley / Re: Late services on: December 01, 2011, 08:58:07
Well 5 mins late on the way home- stuck behind a freight train ( often the case) and 11 mins late this morning.
2  All across the Great Western territory / Smoke and Mirrors / Re: serious saftey issue- who best to contact please. on: November 30, 2011, 14:27:36
I did call FGW (First Great Western) again to ensure the details of my call had been logged, and was informed nothing had been logged on their system- after informing them twice! ive now contacted the ORR» (Office of Rail and Road, formerly Office of Rail Regulation - about).
3  Journey by Journey / London to Kennet Valley / Late services on: November 30, 2011, 14:23:58
Well, thought I^d have a little vent on here. I get the train between Reading and Newbury Racecource on a daily bases. Over the past few weeks the service has been awful

All services are around about 5 mins late. However last night the 4.15 from the racecourse arrived 15 mins late, the 5.15 on Friday arrived 20 mins late and I^ve had three cancelled services in the last month.

I^ve used the service for three years, but the train always leaves the racecourse 2-3 mins late ( can see it at Newbury in the distance waiting) and looses more time along route. Are the timings very tight on this route? It may only be a few mins here or there but what^s the point in a timetable if it^s never stuck to?

There have been many other late arrivals, but to be honest lost count!

Anyone know why there has been a change to the infomation screens to show 'arrived'? seems a bit pointless as often it says it quite a while before the service shows up.
5  All across the Great Western territory / Smoke and Mirrors / Re: serious saftey issue- who best to contact please. on: November 14, 2011, 14:08:24
Sorry if I^ve caused any issues posting that question.

In hindsight the passenger alarm would have been a good idea, but as we were so close to the destination and said issue couldn^t happen again before the destination ( and there was no way I^d be able to get to the alarm as the train was packed) I decided to report it at the station. I also called FGW (First Great Western), and I have to say how impressed I was with the person I called. There was no log made of when I reported the issue at the station, but that^s not to say it wasn^t dealt with. I still feel it^s best not to go into details, but I can assure you all I^m not using this forum as publicity or for scare mongering, I generally didn^t know how to best to report the issue.

Thank you,

Simon.
6  Journey by Journey / North Downs Line / Re: Problems 7/11/11 on: November 11, 2011, 14:30:35
Well my service to Newbury never left Reading. overheard the fitter- one engine had no oil and no leak- so no oil was put in their at some point  Wink

Mind you, known services to run on one engine before.
7  All across the Great Western territory / Smoke and Mirrors / serious saftey issue- who best to contact please. on: November 11, 2011, 14:21:03
Ok, I don^t think it^s right to go into details on here as this is pretty serious and not the place to do it. There was a very serious safety breach on the service I was on last night caused by the driver. I reported this to a member of staff at Reading. Now for peace of Mind I^d like to follow this up in an e-mail. Is it best just to use the form on the FGW (First Great Western) website?

Simon.
8  Journey by Journey / Thames Valley Branches / Re: passengers overcharged on: October 28, 2011, 15:46:55
Would they know how much money was generated by this? Maybe they could donate it to a charity- be a good bit of PR (Public Relations).
9  Journey by Journey / London to Reading / Re: HST stopping further down Platform 4 on: October 28, 2011, 15:43:49
While this work goes on , I do feel sorry for the platform staff. However, I do wish they were a little more polite at times. Granted some people take no notice and walk the wrong side of the yellow line but watched a few of them being very rude to passengers.

All very odd now a section has no roof!
10  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: FGW high speed services now almost at the bottom of the performance table on: October 28, 2011, 15:33:09
Well, id be interested to know the figures, but when ever I get the newbury racecourse to Reading service (depart NC at 5.15) its never been on time- always 2-3 mins late and always 5 mins late at Reading. the time aloud forthe service isnt enough, so why not leave Newbury a few mins earlier? all very mr R perrin this- I remeber him saying somthing like:  ' dear BR (British Rail(ways)) traffic manager as mt train always arrives 5 mins late why not adjust the timetable by said 5 mins so therefore the train will be on time'...
11  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Stock cascade of class 150s on: October 19, 2011, 13:57:50
I forgot how some of you travel on them for such long services sorry.

The fact they want to run them so close to the depot does concern me, as they cant have much faith!

but on the plus side, least they are trying.
12  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Stock cascade of class 150s on: October 17, 2011, 14:30:05
What^s the capacity like comparing to a two car 165? The rush hour services on this route are rammed as it is. Be interesting to see what happens, are they planning on strengthening other TV (Thames Valley) services then? As for being on a 150 all the way from Reading to Gatwick...... no comment!
