How do I post a new question? There is no 'obvious' way.
2  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Problems with IET trains from April 2021 on: May 11, 2021, 13:23:33
Surprised there's not talk of hi-jacking the blue 125 set

I think it's a cool colour scheme. Are there any plans to electrify or make them accept hydrogen?
4  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: General Stations - what and why on: August 18, 2020, 11:35:34
There was a Perth General, gateway to the Highlands and all that...a very busy station in its day. But there was no other significant station in Perth. OK Princes st on the Dundee line, just a quicker way into that part of the City.
5  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Bristol Temple Meads Station redevelopment on: June 27, 2020, 14:42:54
We had the glass V cleaning debate on St Pancras extension. Cradles were installed, and could only be used when the juice was switched off. It's pretty much a 24 hour station ( As much as we knew at design time) so really the cradles were a fairly cumbersome waste. I think the coating that can be applied to the glass relies on rain and therefore would be pretty ineffective internally. The issue is always break dust and diesel fumes. I assume 125s are still used. So I guess St P is looking a bit grubby now.
6  Sideshoots - associated subjects / The Lighter Side / Re: Is MDF really "timber"? [DotD - 26.3.2020] on: March 26, 2020, 13:22:09
MDF is just sawdust and resin and is thought to be very cancerous. You can get moistureproof MDF for bathroom works/lining but with the associated chemicals is probably worse for health.
7  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture in the United Kingdom / Re: A review of LNER’s Azuma on: October 26, 2019, 11:24:38
Thanks for posting the review. Hadn't realised a colour light system is used for seat reservations...not much use to the 7% of variably colour blind of the population. Surprised that wasn't picked up by the rep from the 'disabilities' lobby. I know paper ones must be a time-consuming hassle for the guard, but there's nothing more useless than a note 'may be reserved later in the journey'.
8  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture in the United Kingdom / Re: request to ban food on trains on: October 10, 2019, 11:59:54
So what lucky group of people are going to police that? Daft thinking...substitute snacks for sale with packets of sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, nuts and coco nibs etc...give them away free to approx. under 12 years or whatever

13  Sideshoots - associated subjects / The Lighter Side / Re: Does anyone know of a bus station that they actually like? on: June 18, 2019, 14:26:18
I would comment on a related thread about the utopia of  Exeter bus station, if I read it correctly which awoke my memories of a friendly coach + bus outfit called optimistically 'Utopia'. Sadly no longer with us...the closure of which would deeply inconvenience the good people of Drax, Skipwith and Tadcaster (a spot with limited faciities, other than canopies). So once I have read a thread, how do I rediscover same, once I have moved on?)
