As I read that, the number of railcard types is set to be drastically reduced.

It would appear the open top bus service from St Ives to Lands End won't operate this year, the route will use normal vehicles instead. Such a poor decision by remote First management. Cry
++A great shame.  One of the great bus journeys.  Can I also recommend the '70' service running across the cliff top at Whitsand Bay - equally stunning.

You appear to have some engineering work down your way on the Sunday which will curtail the cheap fares

Thank you

Naivity perhaps, but trying to look for LOS - SWI» (Swindon - next trains) on 14/3 returning on 16/3.  Have found an exceptional £ 11.00 out single, but the returns options are showing no advances of any time.

User error on my part, or should I leave it a few days to book?

Cheers all.

Can't for the life of me find what I recall was a specific thread on 'pubs near stations', but for information Castle  Brewery have opened a new cellar door style outlet for their outstanding range of ales.

Just behind the old livestock dock,, 'up' side of Lostwithiel Station.

10  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Plymouth and Cornwall / Falmouth Major Events on: June 16, 2024, 14:17:20
Took the opportunity granted by unexpected fine weather, to day trip to the Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival which was hugely well supported with the Town being very busy.

Opted to travel by train from Lostwithiel, and on changing at Truro we were once again shepherded out of the station into a queue for the branch service, and informed of a 1 hr 45 minute wait to catch the connection.

Please don't get me wrong, GWR (Great Western Railway) staff were absolutely on the ball, communicating, updating, issuing water, everything you would expect - even pointing out the opportunity to catch the U1 bus from adjacent to the queue, (additional fare of £ 12.00 for 3 of us, rtn, although First bus only seemed to want to take 10p from my account).

Having made the return queue by 1900 at Falmouth Docks, we had to stay over with friends as the numbers of people ahead of us meant that we would have made it to Truro, but not in time for the last train to Lostwithiel.

My question is that Falmouth has an eviable reputation for being the key outdoor events destination in Cornwall, and every encouragement is rightly made to use public transport, but public transport always seems to be taken by surprise with these events.

What do we think could be done to improve the situation?

Surveying underway today for both the temporary, then permanent footbridges.

Ah, back to the vision of a Treulfoot Park and Ride for Plymouth.  That was a clever idea back in the day.

Good call on merging it all Chris, Thank you.

Lostwithiel still awaits it's fabled temporary bridge, and there is much riding on it politically locally.

The temporary structure puts 'Tanks on the Lawn' in the event of a government change as an ongoing rental expense that cannot be ignored by any future rail minister.  If said temporary bridge doesn't materialise soon, then there will be a lot of 'loss of face' by our incumbent MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post - a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London, depending on context), who has put significant effort into progressing the project, which will only be siezed on by her opposition who is typically all to keen to ride on the coat tails of others.

It is 10 years since I started asking for this bridge, and have learnt not to hold my breath !

Does it include disabled access as well?

New access ramp to the down platform being built at the moment to bypass the narrow existing ramp beside the front of the signal box.  Not seen any design for either the temporary or future bridge yet, as ever it is all about available funds.

Unfortunately, there remains a vocal minority cohort, down here who wouldn't be happy with a daily gold plated pasty, wrapped in a winning lottery ticket.  I suspect most of them work for Cornwall Live.

I still miss the free crayons for use in the comments....
