i note that over the last few weeks, the brasserie service has been cancelled many times with only a buffet service operating on mny HST (High Speed Train) mainline services.  why is this?Huh Huh

have the folks from bettertrains4chepstow.org given their response to the AXC» (Arriva Cross Country - about) december 2008 tt?  i hope they have as this is now the chance to get a call from the hourly cardiff - nottingham service.  i have personally written to AXC accordingly!

i also think that the XX55 from cardiff and the XX15 from paddington should call at STJ (Severn Tunnel Junction railway station) to provide a service to and from the east mons area!!!

i also note that the national rail TT online (which replaces the printed versions i have collected since 1986) is still not available yet online via networkrail.com!  why not eh?!
Believe me Paul, Im waiting for the national rail TT to appear online too. Should be online soon.
good to hear that mate.  i really dont know why this cannot be made available T-12!
6  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Devon - Central, North and South / Re: Class 142 Pacers in service on Devon branch lines, 2007 to 2011 - merged topic on: November 02, 2007, 18:43:59
whilst it is significant that 142s are replacing 158s, both of which are 15-20 years old now, i dont see what the probs are with the 142s.  we have had them on the cardiff valley lines and south wales main line to swansea and maesteg now for several years, and they were brought up to the standard of the 158s internally by wales and west/wales and borders a few years back.

the ones that have been in the south wales/west region for a few years are certainly more comfortable than those that have the original bus seating, but i have used those before, 3 + 2 seating, but most of the 3's were used a two's and 2's as ones, especially as people are getting bigger over the last ten years (and yep that includes me!)
I think one of the problems which is causing concern about these units coming to FGW (First Great Western) is that they are not refurbed like they are in South Wales and FGW obviously have no intention of refurbing them as they intend to only have them on lease for a couple of years (I will believe that when I see it!)

thats what i thought!  the refurbised ex-valley lines 142s are ok.  2 + 2 seating.  the older bus type seats are pathetic to be honest for a MODERN railway in 2008!

Thanks for letting us know about this Paul and a good question as to why FGW (First Great Western) haven't been able to publish their full timetables yet.

Incidently neither have SWT (South West Trains) who haven't published any timetables yet apart from the new Romsey-Southampton-Salisbury timetable which includes FGW services. All other SWT new December timetables will be available from Monday 12th of November.

You can download this timetable here:

thanks timmer mate for those details.

Even though (prepares for paulsouthwales' correction Tongue) it spends more of it's time in Canton not getting fixed!

THE 121 has always been on the bay service when i have taken it over the last 18 months.  whilst the bay is a modern tourist atrraction (e.g. Doctor Who, Torchwood etc) i have never experienced a 121 on a mainline service before and so I find heritage DMUs (Diesel Multiple Unit) very nostalgic!  i alwsya remember taking the 0940 merthyr - bristol tm in the 80s which ran via the cardiff cityline, and it was fantastic travelling in the front of these DMUs between cardiff and through the severn tunnel to bristol,  looking out through the front windows. although it was probably a 117 NOT a 121!  even so quite nostalgic even for a lad in his early 30s Smiley
12  Journey by Journey / Cross Country services / Re: CrossCountry franchise draft timetable consultation on: November 02, 2007, 18:18:40
the new cardiff - manchester train is going to be useless as we already have an hourly cardiff - manchester train via the marches line.  please AXC» (Arriva Cross Country - about) divert the proposed cardiff - manchester train to NEWCASTLE after birmingham please?!?!
Have you written to AXC to let them know your thoughts on this?

Yes timmer!!!! AND they have said there is nothing they can do about it!!  So much for a public consultation!!!
13  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Why? Some TOCs have December tt PDFS Online already! on: November 02, 2007, 18:16:49
ATW (Arriva Trains Wales (former TOC (Train Operating Company))), FTP (File Transfer Protocol), South Eastern, Chiltern, West Midlands..

All of these now have their Winter TT pdfs from 9th December on line.  ATW and FTP have had them on since late October.

Why then are FGW (First Great Western) winter TT's which are only draft, still only available for certain routes?

For the other TOCs to publish them must mean the National TT is finalised and hence TOCs are able to Publish their individual TOC tt's now!!!!

15  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: FGW Weekend Timetables Now Online on: November 02, 2007, 18:10:44
I have emailed FGW (First Great Western) to ask why the Saturday Cardiff-Portsmouth/Weymouth timetable link isnt working. It may not be available yet but bearing in mind all the Saturday timetables have the date of 25/09 on each link I find it strange that this one TT is not available. I will let you know when its available.
UPDATE:

I received a reply from FGW a few days back to say that their internet team have been informed that the link for the above Saturday timetable isn't working. So far nothing has been done to rectify this.

i got a similar reply as well timmer and i see we are no further forward some 7-10 days after!!!
