1  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: New signs and line speeds on Newquay branch. on: May 30, 2012, 17:36:16
HST (High Speed Train)'S now operate over the line at the same speed as units , which will bring an improvent in journey times Smiley There have been some relatively small reductions in speed restrictions too , so even the units may see a 3 /4 minute decrease in branch timings Smiley Nothing over amazing really Smiley

3  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Plymouth residents' anger over 50ft phone mast near homes on: February 10, 2012, 10:33:19
Its all about where you live ! Look at the Looe branch last year , resident outcry ! Gunnislake too !
Now cross over to North Road , near the old postal dock , far closer to houses and more of an eyesore , any outcry..... no ??
I think Network Rail have learnt some lessons , get em up quick and then suffer the residents wrath Smiley
To be honest , im very suprised Network rail couldn't find any space across the track at Laira Depot ??

4  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Police appeal after man delays sleeper service at Penzance - 9 December 2011 on: January 22, 2012, 22:12:50
And how the police couldn't attend Penzance in 30 mins , let alone the time it took to travel to Truro ?? Smiley
5  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Anger at 80ft Network Rail mast in Cornwall on: March 14, 2011, 17:32:08
Perhaps the residents of Bere Alston and Sandplace can club together and provide the consultation fees as to the plans  they want instead ?
Take a peek at the mast just to the north of Plymouth station when your next travelling on a train...... now thats worth complaining about if you lived the 20-30 odd metres away from it , but... its up already !

6  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Anger at 80ft Network Rail mast in Cornwall on: March 06, 2011, 09:20:28
I think that you will get the " Green" mast option from Network Rail , this seems to happen when a mast is seen to be an "eyesore" to the local area . They could , of course , try the " tree" looking option  , there is one on rattery bank , between Totnes and Marley tunnel ! Next time yr on a train , see if you can pick it out ( easier in the Winter)  Smiley
n.b The tree one was put up by mobile phone companies ,its not for GSMR !
7  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Anger at 80ft Network Rail mast in Cornwall on: March 04, 2011, 08:03:08
As I said in an earlier post , if the masts don't go up , you'll lose the train service in the near future , national coverage is required, no exceptions !
I await the " Save the Looe valley line from closure" Facebook page soon Smiley
What makes this different from anywhere else ?? OK , you live there , noone complained to the TWO masts put up in Luxulyan Valley last year why ? Because noone lives there

Pete
8  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Anger at 80ft Network Rail mast in Cornwall on: February 23, 2011, 10:32:20
Just have a look around and open yr eyes !! All around the country these masts have been erected , has been going on a few years now ! Yes , most of them are eyesores , just look at the one put up at the golf course end of Par Docks , its huge !  Any complaints about that one .................... no !
The railway has been crying out for a modern , digital , safe communications method and this is it , if the line isn't covered by this new radio system, there will be no line , which one do you want ?

9  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Plymouth and Cornwall / FGW Buffet service PZ - Plym ?? on: September 21, 2009, 21:42:35
Hi , has anyone else noticed how many times the buffet is now closed between Penzance and Plymouth ? Are FGW (First Great Western) taking a look over their shoulders at what Cross Country have done to on train services ?

12  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Infrastructure Priorities in Cornwall on: June 22, 2008, 11:10:21
"Anyway arn't most of the the TSR (Temporary Speed Restriction)'s on that branch
due to the condictions of the track and not the
crossings?"

At present , there is only one TSR between Luxulyan and Goonbarrow Box (20mph). The speed of the line is mainly due to line curvature / gradient / signalling /  preventative maintenence.

13  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Infrastructure Priorities in Cornwall on: June 19, 2008, 07:56:12
" If it ran to St Austell it would connect better and they could make it a higher line speed."  Total fiction i'm afraid there. Have you seen the curvature / gradients between Burngullow / St Dennis ? you would be lucky to attain the same speed that is already present on the newly relaid section at Luxulyan valley Smiley
Pete
14  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Infrastructure Priorities in Cornwall on: June 19, 2008, 07:52:19
The cost of implementing improvements  between St Austell - Newquay would be massive, money would be far better spent on the Main Line, which is where most of passenger income comes from in Cornwall. As ive said on previous occasions , Network rail have spent millions upgrading the Par-Newquay line, especially between Ponts Mill and Goonbarrow , why throw all that away to spend more again? I think Network rail should improve speeds down to Cornwall ( and in Cornwall) first , then think about speeding up branch lines, but i'm afraid that due to the gradients / signalling / curvature of the line I doubt wether you would ever see speeds increase more than they are now. The knowledgeable of you on this forum will of seen certain speeds relaxed recently on the main line ( Redruth down / Largin up ) So they are trying to do things to benefit operations

Pete

None really , as apart from the Albert Bridge , most are high(ish) speed sections. Only really benefit train running / puctuality I think.
