2  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Lands End open top service axed on: January 18, 2025, 11:42:42
It would appear the open top bus service from St Ives to Lands End won't operate this year, the route will use normal vehicles instead. Such a poor decision by remote First management. Cry

One flight a day is hardly going to frighten GWR (Great Western Railway)?

I find myself wondering why he allowed it to get so bad in the first place, when he had far more influence over the matter.

He’s never had any influence.  He merely follows what he’s instructed to do by the DfT» (Department for Transport - about).

Certainly worked for Greater Anglia's MD Jamie Burles - just landed a nice little number with Dft/GBR (Great British Railways) after being DfT's model TOC (Train Operating Company). Rostered Sunday's are compulsory overtime unless it can be covered by volunteers.

10  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: June fares increase Devon & Cornwall on: June 29, 2023, 16:15:45
From Plymouth Live

Quote
Great Western Railway train fares for journeys in Devon and Cornwall are set to increase this month. The train operator says this is due to "shifts in customer demand".

Ticket prices for all off peak journeys in Devon and Cornwall, including ones that travel to and from Taunton, will soon be increasing by five per cent as GWR (Great Western Railway) reports changes to customers' habits. They say they are hoping this will also encourage people to travel on quieter trains.

GWR also explained that the increase in fares is also intended to help the company generate a "sensible financial return for government." A spokesperson for GWR said: "From June 11, Off-Peak Day fares within Devon and Cornwall, including fares to/from Taunton, are increasing by 5%. This is designed to help manage shifts in customer demand and encouraging travel on quieter trains, while ensuring we are generating a sensible financial return for government.

"As part of the current National Rail Contracts, all revenue is returned to government and train operators are paid a fixed management fee.

"The Devon & Cornwall Railcard continues to offer 1/3 off all standard class Anytime or Off-Peak tickets to local residents.

"And Off-Peak fares still offer a significant discount against Anytime fares."

Encourage people to travel on quieter trains Huh When and how - Off Peak being bottom tier in the South West for local journeys, Super off peak fares don't exist for these journeys ?!? Huh IMO (in my opinion) the spokesperson is talking b*ll*cks.

12  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Cornwall - some things change and others haven't on: May 22, 2023, 20:00:35
Looking at Eden Project bus service from St Austell for summer 2023 I was quite surprised to see the limited bus service. Is the number of visitors by public transport now that low ? Or is the attraction much less popular in general these days perhaps ?
13  Journey by Journey / London to the West / Half term Havoc ? on: May 22, 2023, 19:38:15
As next week is schools half term holidays and we have strikes taking place on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday (also ASLEF» (Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen - about) no overtime etc on Thursday) will services on Tuesday and Thursday be swamped or will travellers stay away / travel over Bank holiday weekend instead ?

15  Journey by Journey / London to the West / Friday 19th May Cornwall issues on: May 19, 2023, 01:46:38
Shocked If your going to Cornwall from Paddington later in the day it's not looking good - 1703 1804 1904 all reportedly not running through. The Sleeper isn't an option either !!  Time the government stopped playing games with the unions ........
