All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / First bus route 234 weekly ticket?
|
on: August 24, 2011, 16:51:37
|
Hello all,
I am wondering, does anyone commute on the route 234 (Frome - Chippenham) between any of the stops? I ask as I am wondering what ticket you use? My partner is due to do a training session at Asda in Melksham and if he gets it, he will use the 234 from Trowbridge - Melksham and back to commute every day, but is there such thing as a 'season' ticket? I know first to FirstWeek and FirstYear tickets but looking at the website, this only seems to operate in cities! Is there such thing as a FirstWeek on the 234 or is it pay ^3 every day for the return?
Any help appreciated!
Regards,
James.

Hello all, Have you ever travelled on a route, weather by car, train, bus or even walked and have been down this road/track/path a million times, but you have only just noticed something that you didn't know was there before? If so, I'd be interested in hearing it, as hopefully I am not the only one... I'll start with mine: For the past god knows how long, I have done countless journeys between Trowbridge and Bradford-on-Avon on the train, and I know the journey by heart...or at least I thought I did. Recently, I was looking on Google Maps as I wanted to know how you get to those level crossings between Bradford Junction and Bradford-on-Avon. I scanned past Bradford Junction and stopped, as I noticed there was a river going under the railway....a river?? I honestly thought this must have been built yesterday, as I can't even remember seeing this from the train! My fianc^e who has lived here for 3 years has even seen it countless times....now that is embarrassing! If I am honest, I also didn't know the canal went over the railway there too...I just thought it was a road bridge...I need to get out more! Regards, James.

All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Steam in Preservation - Steam in the 21st century video
|

|
Hello all, sorry if this is the wrong section, I don't know where to post videos? I just made my first long video for YouTube (37 minutes) featuring steam in action on the mainline and on preserved railways in the modern era. 99% of it is in the west/on FGW▸ 's network. Details: This video features a small variety of preserved locos at work on the mainline and on preservation lines. These are all my person shots, so are mainly taken around the Wiltshire and Avon areas but there is a few shots out of these two regions. In this video you can find: - Many shots of Nunney Castle and other classic GWR▸ locos. - Shots from the GWR 175th Anniversary at the Didcot Railway Centre - A double header with a Manor and a Mogul - Nunney Castle hammering up Washford Bank (and nearly failing to!) - Broad Gauge 'Fire Fly' in action at the Didcot Railway Centre - A Black 5 on the West Somerset Railway - Tornado in London and Trowbridge - Clan Line on the Bristol to Victoria VSOE▸ - A 5MT hammering up Dilton Marsh bank I hope you enjoy this video, and I am still collecting shots for a second video, hopefully expanding the locations! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kH2yV...el_video_titleCheers, James.

Journey by Journey / Heart of Wessex / Re: 40 MPH Speed Restriction Between Dorchester West And Castle Cary (03/06/2011)

oh the days of the Class 31s (though when I did them, they didn't seem to be very impressive regarding noise at all ) The 40mph limit has been there for some time now. I remember doing the 67s down there and asking the guard if the times will change due to the 40mph limit in force, but she said it doesn't really affect it, and I recall arriving into Weymouth on time. It was a bit of a slow run, got used to trundling down there at slow speeds, but when your on a unit Yeovil comes around in no time! Regards, James.

Hello all, Anyone going to see GWR▸ Castle 'Earl of Mount Edgcumbe' steaming on the Collett Express tomorrow? It was due to be double headed but this is now out the window! It's passing through Newbury, Westbury East curve, Trowbridge and Bath to Bristol, and returning via Chippenham and Swindon. Times: http://www.uksteam.info/tours/t11/t0618d.htmIf the weather holds, then I'll cycle over to Freshford to see her there, but if it's raining, I might try Avoncliff instead! Regards, James.

woah woah!
I was not inteding to cause a stir on here. I am sorry for the short post, there was a bit more I could have added but it was 07:40 odd in the morning, and I needed to get to work for a half past 8 start in the office.
I am just near the end of my Lunch break now, just thought I would come on here and explain things. I see Grahams point and am not offended at all, I can see the link, but I am happy to back myself up that I am not Jim.
I do know of Jim Hale you speak of, and have spoken to him before. I know he has not lived in Melksham at all before, and I know he didn't seem to be a follower of Save The Train etc. I haven't read any of his posts and I can guess that most of it is rants?
I didn't know bignosemac was on here, could you confirm that I am not a 15 year old, as I am the same Heart-of-Wessex found on the Rail UK▸ Forums. I also have a different youtube account to jim (search for username james143611). One thing, I have also met Graham before, at a save the train meeting in Melksham many years ago. I have seen you since and was going to say hello but I think you have forgotten me, it was only breif and I know you see a lot of faces so I would understand.
I am sorry if I caused trouble, but I am who I am (if you want a drivers licence, I can send one for ID purposes) and am on here to talk about the network and support the melksham service, not cause rants about it. Thank you for the info on the London trip Graham, I do hope to travel on the train in August on a Sunday, will look up some advance fares first though. Note, I will be slow in responding to any questions in the day time, as I say I am at work from 8:30 - 16:30.
Kind Regards,
James.

Hello all! Here is a bit about me. My name is James Underwood, I'm 24 and live in Trowbridge. I was born in Trowbridge but lived in Melksham from the 80's right up to 2006 where I moved to my own flat in Trowbridge. I am a huge rail enthusiast, my main aim is to complete every train for sight and visit every station that exists in the UK▸ (bit of a mission yes!) I am a regular traveller on the FGW▸ network, and often travel on the Heart-of-Wessex ranger and sometimes the Freedom of South West and Freedom of Severn and Solent rovers. That's about all really, any questions then feel free to ask Also, I'm not the best at grammar or explaining things well due to a small condition I have which I won't go into detail about, but please accept my apologies for this! Kind Regards, James.
