1  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Bicycles on trains (merged topics) on: April 22, 2011, 11:28:41
I did not say prams, I said 'baby buggies'.

You know the 'fold up variety', like the 'fold-up bicycles' we were talking about earlier.

So who takes priority wheelchairs, prams or bikes ?

Law states wheelchairs. Then depending on the type of train, we can will decide how many prams and bikes can be boarded safely, FGW (First Great Western) cycling by train policy clearly states the number of bikes that can be carried.
Unfortunately staff all have different interpetations, which confuses passengers. But my problem is with those who can see they is no room and still deliberatley block a door, ie an emergency exit. And if needed, who gets the blame? I do!
PS Why do kids go round as a group of 6, and still try to force their way on to a full 2 car 158? And if going home, we can't throw them off because they are deemed as a minor! Damned if we do, and damned if we don't!
2  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Bicycles on trains (merged topics) on: April 21, 2011, 02:19:04
Just to bring this back, a classic a few days ago at Cardiff. Full and standing 158 heading towards Maesteg. Cyclist turns up late, boards at the very front and leans his bike against the cab door!!! Unfortunately my colleague did nothing  Angry
PS SDS, have you noticed recently that people are buying full size BMXs which fold in half and then blocking a door because it's too big to go in a luggage rack?
3  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: HST working the 1512 Bristol Parkway-Weston Super Mare last Saturday on: April 20, 2011, 01:53:24
Sprinter was nicked at 1440 to strengthen the 1449 Weymouth. Yeovil home to Rovers....
4  Journey by Journey / London to Swindon and Bristol / Re: 18:30 Pad to Wsm on: February 14, 2011, 23:17:05
Easy, 1830 ex Padd caped at Bristol to form the 2030 BTM (Bristol Temple Meads (strictly, it should be BRI) but BTM is a commonly used alternative)) Padd, a Sprinter provided to form C26/M70.

Barriers don't work.

Re-install gates.

Problem solved.

No, because the idiots will go accross without checking it's safe to do so!
There's no such thing as a dangerous level crossing!
Plenty of dangerous idiots that use them incorrectly!!!!

7  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture in the United Kingdom / Re: Permit requirements for taxi drivers at railway stations on: February 06, 2011, 23:42:30
No problems, but judging by Bristol taxi drivers  Huh
I'd like to see your valid visa for working in the UK (United Kingdom) Grin
This is from someone who had to argue against a cheeky sod who wanted me to pay for the bridge, as he claimed that that he had to pay the ^5.30 (at the time) and he wouldn't get his money back. The taxi driver didn't know I was railway staff and he lost his FGW (First Great Western) permit after my written report Grin
8  Journey by Journey / London to Swindon and Bristol / Re: How do you get into the car park at temple meads? on: February 06, 2011, 15:46:47
And make sure you pay the correct fee, otherwise you WILL get a ticket!
9  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: ^Appalling^ rail service slammed on: February 04, 2011, 16:39:54
Time for a driver to stick his oar in!
Commuters, spread your travel FFS (for goodness' sake (a more polite definition))! I had the misfortune of doing "office hours" recently and to listen to the whinging and moaning due to having to stand for a whole 10 minutes Shocked

Modern technology, work 0600 to 1400, or 1100 to 1900.
Thank God no more 9 to 5s until July!!!

PS I stand for 20 minutes even with empty seats, as I don't pay. Shame some other staff stay sat down.
10  Journey by Journey / London to South Wales / Re: Emergency engineering in the tunnel on: January 28, 2011, 15:48:35
In 1999 the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) raised concerns about the state of the track in the tunnel.  http://www.gov-news.org/gov/uk/news/severn_tunnel_hse_prohibit_trains_running/46103.html

Because of the tunnel length and evacuation/rescue difficulties etc, this ought to be teh best maintained bit of track onteh whole of the GWML (Great Western Main Line).

That was in Railtrack days, a lot better under Notwork Rail.
11  Journey by Journey / London to South Wales / Re: Wales V England - Getting home after the match... on: January 28, 2011, 15:46:52

Annoyingly, I'd already bought our Friday night return tickets, but there we go...

If you make a genuine attempt to you the tickets on Friday, but decide not to travel due to overcrowding, I'd assume that the tickets would be valid teh following morning.

Not if a day return.
12  Journey by Journey / London to South Wales / Re: Newport Station - problems, improvements and enhancements (merged topics) on: January 26, 2011, 22:38:59
Can anyone bag me one of the InterCity Sleeper posters that are still on display in the disused ramp down to the old subway? Must've been there since the early 1980s!!!  Grin

No, they are MINE!!!
13  Journey by Journey / London to South Wales / Re: Wales V England - Getting home after the match... on: January 26, 2011, 22:24:27
Also on the news tonight, no more Friday night 6 Nations games for the forseeable future.
14  Journey by Journey / London to South Wales / Re: Wales V England - Getting home after the match... on: January 26, 2011, 22:22:49
Yep, very few Valley services on an important day! Do the RMT (National Union of Rail, Maritime & Transport Workers) wish for the public to use trains?
I can think of easier ways to commit suicide!!!

PS I'll be in work, but away from Cardiff.
15  Journey by Journey / London to South Wales / Re: Newport Station - problems, improvements and enhancements (merged topics) on: January 26, 2011, 22:20:37
Ref above post.
A single ticket machine at the platform 4 entrance, good idea next to the main car park Roll Eyes
WHSmith, eventually is to go onto platform 2/3 between the new steps and the old ramp, basically about where the benchs are.
Minor fault with the lifts??? Grin  All 3 lifts have spent at least 24 hours out of service on several occasions THIS MONTH!!!
Lack of signs, only installed this month, 3 months after the building opened.
Leaking roof, still leaks, and remember the snow on the inside!!!
