1  Journey by Journey / London to the West / Re: Row Brewing Over Forthcoming SWT Service Cuts West Of Exeter on: May 11, 2008, 15:46:28
THIS ISN'T GOOD. I think I am gonna start a petition for a replacement company for SWT (South West Trains).

I think maybe fgw could introduce some London-paignton/plymouth services to replace the swt service.

Westbury and stations (espec Pewsey) were always Intercity stations, to my knowledge.

Pewsey has always been an Intercity station too.

Why do Plymouth services stop at Pewsy, Westbury and Castle Cary?

Hardly InterCity stations!

I can understand Exeter - London HSTs (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) stopping.

Edit by Conner: This thread has been spilt and is for discussions on the London-West timetable and calling points.

Shut up!

Firstly learn to spell pewsey;

Pewsey has always been an intercity station, which I and hundreds of others use to get to london and the west country even as far as Cornwall.

Westbury and castle cary are always well used stations for intercity trains.

So these stops dont make a lot of difference to Plymouth services but pick up a number of passengers. You dont have a clue what ur banging on about.

HSTs (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) are unsuitable stopping trains due to poor acceleration and short platforms. take the 1706 Padd.-Westbury; it stops at London Paddington, Twyford(short platform), Reading, Theale(short platform), Thatcham(short platform), Newbury, Kintbury(short platform), Hungerford(short platform), Bedwyn(short platform), Pewsey(short platform) and Westbury. Stopping all the time defeats the object of the HSTs; they have to keep stopping and starting with poor acceleration, making them slower than a turbo. If they are going a reasonable distance between stops they are good, but not if they stop a lot.

I think a few 180 adelantes should be retained for these more local routes.
