How do passengers break the air conditioning? by opening the windows? Surely not. If that is all it takews to break it then there is no hope.
Opening windows means the Air Con is trying to cool the whole world.............

Not surprisingly, this can lead to it's failure.............
2  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: New Customer Information Systems on: May 26, 2012, 10:57:33
Swindon now has its new CIS (Customer Information System).  Works fine, announcements much easier to hear, though an anoying pause between the time and the word service.  System does not announce that trains have arrived so no phantom arrivals.
Shame the new screens are positioned such that unless you're right under them they're unreadable on Plat 3.

You haven't said why this system was used? If the unions didn't want to see the guard diminish - why have the driver doing stuff at all?

That's a good question, and one I don't know the answer to.  Anybody?
The controls for how many doors are released under SDO (Selective Door Opening) are in the cab, so the driver needs to be in control of release. The Northern mod bypassed SDO hence the removal as some Cotswold line stations need it.

The compromise on build was to do a mod where the driver releases the doors but there are panels in the train to allow the guard to do door close. When they come back they'll be as they were when they left so unions can't complain!

Yes, I've not had chance to have a look myself yet, but I believe the seating configuration is going to remain the same.  A colleague who's seen one of them says they're very smart, especially first class.  As and when I get chance to take a visit to Old Oak I'll take a butchers and report back...
Indeed, interior layout unchanged, so still loads of legroom and plenty of tables. Refresh is pretty much as per the Hull Trains units other than the odd change of interor paint colour.

Improvement over as built interior in my view!

Testing on the Lickey bank?
This week's "Weekly Operation Notice" to traincrew has details of the special arrangements in place for testing of 172s on the Lickey, under full power and with engines isolated I believe, so yes, testing on the Lickey.

TSBs are labelled as Coach F as per the normal buffets, so formations are either

A B C D E F G H for a 2+8 set with a full buffet in; or
A B C D F G H for a 2+7 with a TSB.

Coaches E and F are both unreserved so it makes no difference to the reservation system if a 2+7 is substituted for a 2+8 and vice versa
7  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Seat reservation on Advance Purchase- do I have to sit in that seat? on: July 06, 2010, 22:47:52
All Laira allocated sets are 'Low Density'. Old Oak Common sets are 'high density' and some contain mini buffets.

Only LA01 to LA16 are low density. LA60 - 64 and LA71 - LA76 are high density.

And perhaps my apologies for posting a link, however if it's floating around on wnxx then that's a good enough excuse in my opinion.

No apology needed. Wasn't having a pop and I'd missed the link on WNXX (Stored Unserviceable, Mainline Locos HQ All Classes) Embarrassed. As I said, should have stuck a password on the pages sooner. If I get time tomorrow, I'll re-post some of the post refresh interior saloon ones on a different page and post a link.

Sorry folks - those pix were taken on the depot and so weren't intended for such a wide distribution (they were being shared with other staff, and I should have password protected them sooner). I'm sure someone will be along to take some shots of it in service in due course.

As for the BR1 key sticker, it cost nothing to get it included in the label pack and looks a damn sight better than "Don't forget your BR1 Key" scrawled in black marker pen!

To set the record straight, the work on 121 comprised simply:-

- Internal repaint
- Renewal of all seat cushions plus covers (not just new covers)
- Heavy Clean

As others have already alluded, the intention is to cycle these two units through again when the remainder of the 150/1s go through refresh.

As for 150127, expect more of the same as 121 got, including it's release with the current external paint job. Nothing yet in the scope for repainting the outside!
