1  Journey by Journey / Heart of Wessex / Re: Additional Trains to Weymouth during the Olympic Weeks on: April 11, 2012, 12:12:30
Sorry, I was sure that XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) used the bay platform at Reading, not long enough for a double Voyager.

I've seen Bmouth bound journeys from the bay platform at Reading, so you're not imagining it  Wink
2  Journey by Journey / London to Reading / Re: Parking in West London on Friday evening on: March 07, 2012, 17:43:56
My friend used to park in a road near to Ruislip gardens (central line) if that's any help? Can't for the life of me remember the name of the road, but it was quite close.
3  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Malfunctioning rail ticket machine cost me ^162.50 on: March 06, 2012, 22:47:59
I had a similar problem once when a friend and I couldn't get our tickets to Exeter from the machine at Waterloo, however with a much more positive outcome.  We were told to board, explained to the conductor on board who was very understanding (I showed him the confirmation email) and we got our tickets from the Machine at EXD» (Exeter St Davids - next trains).
Sorry to hear this story, It's pretty disgusting really, but alas not unheard of.

5  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture Overseas / Luggage Lockers? on: April 23, 2011, 17:08:46
Hey everyone, hope you're all enjoying this lovely weather Smiley

I'm going into London on monday on my way back from visiting home.  I'm going to be meeting a friend in central and spending the day there.  So that I dont have to drag my bag around all day, does anyone know if there are there any kind of day-long cheapish Luggage storage lockers in Paddington/Marylebone?

Cheers in advance.
6  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Stock cascade of class 150s on: March 11, 2011, 11:09:27
The unallocated ones include the 2 original 150/0s and the 2x3 car sets which have been formed in to three car sets after vehicle write-offs.  If the latter 2 are reformed in to 2 car sets then one won't have a toilet vehicle.

It's FGW (First Great Western), London Midland and Northern who are the companies bidding for the 150s.

The latest DfT» (Department for Transport - about) decision involves Northern getting 24x150 vehicles to replace the 180s and 16x150 vehicles to replace 8x156 EMT» (East Midlands Trains - about) bound vehicles and a few extra for growth.

Northern now also have to submit proposals to DfT for where they would utilise the 142s with FGW, after the 150 cascade and if DfT aren't happy with those proposals they could in theory stay with FGW, go to another operator or be put in to storage, despite the recent repaints which apparently are in preparation for them returning to Northern.

Am i confusing myself here... Huh why would London Midland be bidding for 150s when they're getting rid of theirs when the 172s are complete? sorry if that's a silly question...
7  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: "First Bus fined for late buses in Bristol and Somerset" BBC News on: February 01, 2011, 00:05:39
Couldn't agree more. I've always said, to me, Bristol is the London of the west. And timetables in london are largely 'every 7-9 minutes' or what have you.
8  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: Engineering works/signal failures on: March 02, 2010, 22:02:51
Agree totally. And it'd be generally understood.

BUT ... would descriptions of that sort encourage certain elements to think "oh - there's an idea - let's go out and nick some cable ..."?

Good point.
Perhaps it could be reported as "Vandalism" in that case?
9  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture in the United Kingdom / Re: Arriva "joke" Country on: December 29, 2009, 22:40:18
I wouldn't even call them a bus company!
out of the 3 arriva services i had to get today... not one of them was on time. infact, the first was 15 minutes late, the second was 40 minutes late, and the 3rd didn't even turn up, so i had to get the next one!!
This is a regular occurance in the Shires and Essex area... probably because 70% of the buses are old, and the newer ones don't get looked after!! So i don't really expect much from their train services..
10  Journey by Journey / Portsmouth to Cardiff / Re: Poor Bad Weather Planning by Southern on: December 26, 2009, 16:30:15
A good chunk of the cancelled services were early morning - which then caused knock on affects for later on... but at least there were some alterations of other services to accomodate, and it was done with a little more warning.  Perhaps a little overcautious.. but at the end of the day, the weather was particularly bad in the area, the temperature dropped, and a lot of the snow froze, making roads lethal in places. At the very least, this way of dealing with the situation was certainly a lot less chaotic then High Wycombe was on Monday!  And besides, i wouldn't agree that all roads were cleared, i live off of a very busy road in Wycombe which wasn't gritted until mid afternoon on Wednesday, which IMO (in my opinion) is pretty poor considering its is a steep but busy road and had been bad since the previous thursday!!
11  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Predicted heavy snow - Friday December 18 on: December 18, 2009, 04:54:07
Its around 5 inches here in wycombe, and still falling. I would expect Chiltern to be affected.
12  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: It's me - I'm jinxed on: December 15, 2009, 13:14:59
I think that's the one that then becomes the 1751.....

If you're referring to the 14:00 ex PNZ i'm pretty sure that theres no physical way that could be true... seeing as it doesn't arrive into Paddington until 19:24 :p

Am i correct in thinking that a couple of Carriages from the Southall crash were involved in the Ladbroke Grove crash? or am i thinking of something else?
14  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: How long is reasonable...... on: July 27, 2009, 15:04:22
Two years ago, i had an interview for University in Swansea.  I booked a ticket for the day before, and to travel back the evening after and i stayed in a hotel.  My Train home was booked for something like 5pm, i thought i'd make sure i had plenty of time, just incase it had over ran.  I ended up finishing a lot earlier than expected, and landed up at Swansea station at 2.30pm.  There was a train at around 3pm (it was 2 years ago, my memory is a bit vague) so i went upto the Lady at the desk and explained my situation, asking if i could swap my ticket for the earlier train and how much it would be.  She was absolutely lovely, and swapped my ticket for no cost atall! I'll always remember that, so helpfull.  Sorry a tad bit off topic, but Flamingo's Post reminded me of this.

Very unlucky to have such an experience with Chiltern. Shocked

I suppose you will be looking forward to the Chiltern service to Oxford, to make your journey simpler...

Oh most deffinitely, i was completely suprised, as they're always so effeciant.  The new service will be fantastic, however, i'm in my last year at Uni in high Wycombe this year, so it's a tad too late lol. But i do intend on moving to the Gerrards cross/Denham area at some point, and will always want to go home to see my mum! =]
