2  Journey by Journey / London to the West / A life of railways in the southwest. on: November 18, 2011, 23:28:54

On Saturday 19 November 2011 the PLYM VALLEY Railway Association are holding a Slide Show, presented by Bernard Mills. This will be preceeded by their Grand Annual Draw.  This is all taking place at the Chaddlewood Farm Community Centre, Glen Road, Plympton  starting at 7.30.pm.  There will be a small admission charge of ^1 per person. Mr Mills has a long and experienced history in the railway, and this should be a very interesting evening!
3  Journey by Journey / Portsmouth to Cardiff / Play up POMPY! spl HST on: September 05, 2011, 21:44:43
Have any of you got any ideas about this?
On the 27 Aug 2011 FGW (First Great Western) ran an extra:
SPM (St Philip's Marsh (Bristol depot)) 5Z?? emptys to Portsmouth to form a football extra from
Portsmouth to Cardiff. It is not clear how any one using this
train got back to Portsmouth. Did the HST (High Speed Train) return the fans
the same day?

4  Journey by Journey / London to the West / Re: 1A40 up tonight! Wed 08 June on: August 04, 2011, 23:17:45
Rail tours in the UK (United Kingdom) often take on special names, which can include slang at times!
My take on this one would be the 'erupt'  in the Irrupter which must have had the class 37's for double noise and smoke!

Note to self: NOT A GEN SITE, but quality railway info!

I understand that the cooker in your pic was in fact from the FGW (First Great Western) drivers top link rest room. There is talk that a preservation bid has now been launched to save this 1950's
item for a Heritage railway in the South West!

13  Journey by Journey / London to the West / Castle Cary fiasco, Sat19.02.11 on: February 20, 2011, 22:15:10
I would like to share this with you good people! At Castle Cary on Saturday night, 19.02.11 the 'down' Weymouth arr at 18.10 approx and was sat on the down Taunton main platform line. It was 158 958 which was formed of three coaches.
At 18.12 approx the 'up' Paddington arrived from Yeovil Pen Mill, and was routed into the down reversible SHORT platform! Two power cars plus eight 23 metre MkIII's some length! The upshot was that the leading power car was on the platform because of a crew change, and that meant that only two coaches were on the platform. The 'train manager' did a P.A to say that there would be a delay before the doors could be opened because he had to walk through the crowded train from the back coach. So, the customers (sorry, passengers) left the train after some delay!
I think what is needed is a BIG sign in Westbury sig box to say:
LONG TRAIN IN LONG PLATFORM  or SHORT TRAIN IN SHORT PLATFORM...........!
                                             NOT
LONG TRAIN IN SHORT PLATFORM or SHORT TRAIN IN LONG PLATFORM............!

Thanks. Grin
