1  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Class 158s to Newquay on: August 15, 2012, 22:20:05
The good ol class 158, used to enjoy catching one of those on a direct connection all the way from weston down to st. erth on my way to st. Ives back in the late 90s, even as late as 2002, wessex trains I think it was back then.

Actually speaking of the Class 158, considering fgw still use them I'm wondering why they're not used very much on the Bristol to Penzanze route & instead they tend to use class 150's & a 150 is not a comfortable train to be sat on for 4+ hours, the 158 is much better suited for long journeys like that.

And for what it's worth, I doubt FGW (First Great Western) would've mistaken WOR for Worcester, which is what thetrainline did, in my correspondence on twitter!!!

Working in the rail industry, that's an elementary mistake to make, particularly when entering WOR into thetrainline's booking engine brings up Worle.  Roll Eyes

Many thanks for chasing this error up with thetrainline, hopefully it'll be sorted asap. Still can't believe that's what the bug is, confusing WOR with a completely different station!

My apologies, had the wrong date when I checked FGWs (First Great Western) site. There is indeed a problem with the FGW booking engine, and others powered by thetrainline. I've reported the bug to FGW.

I see this bug still hasn't been sorted, would have thought they'd had sorted it out by now.

These sort of comments really annoy me & there's a clear example of someone talking about a part of the country they clearly know nothing about! I've been on packed hst's many times between plymouth & penzance, not to mention 150's aren't nice to be sat on for long journeys & it's along way from ply to pnz.

Suggest you make your purchase through a WebTIS based booking engine. I recommend redspottedhanky.com. Independent of any train operator and no booking, payment card or ticket collection fees.

Thanks, least I know I'm not going crazy lol. I will check out that site you mention.

I can only find a single train for that day which is the 1607 Worle to St. Ives. (Using Trainline's ticketing engine)

I take it this is the ordinary service for Worle?

Not sure as I've always caught the train from St Ives to make it to St erth in time for the 17:49 hst service to Taunton, then the 21:29 hst service to worle.

Hi Smartie36.

Could you tell us the exact journey you are trying to find tickets for, including date and time of travel?

Sorry, saw your post after typing my other reply up. It's worle to St Ives for the 16th may. The 8:50 from worle, arriving St Ives 13:31, returning on same day, departing St Ives 17:02 and getting back to worle at 22:07. It's a day trip I make down to St Ives quite often.

Is popping into Weston-super-Mare station an option? If not you can order the full range of tickets over the phone

Looks like I may have to do that, certainly something weird going on with the booking system, choosing just a single from worle to St Ives works but a return doesn't, says no tickets available yet if I keep to the same date but change the departure station the return ticket option works!

Yes I'm entering it correctly, tested it by either typing in the station name myself or clicking on the station name that pops up when the site recognises the station your entering, neither works, also getting the same problems using the fgw app on my smart phone.

Hi,

For the last couple of days when trying to purchase tickets from worle using either the fgw site or the trainline site it keeps saying there's no tickets available, no matter what destination i select, yet there is from Weston Milton or Weston-super-mare, have they forgotten worle station exists?!

Has anyone else been having problems?

Lucky I wasn't doing one of my day trips down to st ives today, not with all that going on.
12  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Ticket machine at Worle Station (merged topics) on: June 21, 2011, 23:20:07
You know what, after the thugs I saw hanging around worle station tonight, who were abusive to the train guard as he walked along the platform checking for any open doors before letting the train depart, I have no doubt the ticket machine will be vandalised sooner rather than later, probably by that same bunch of idiots, really wouldn't surprise me!

Makes me wonder if the security cameras at worle station even work?

13  All across the Great Western territory / Your rights and redress / Rail travel vouchers on: March 12, 2011, 12:32:37
Hi,

I was one of those who got caught up in the line problems between Exeter & Newton Abott on March 1st so my day trip down to st ives had to be aborted and I contacted FGW (First Great Western) about compensation, which I recieved a letter back from them today & while I'm happy I got a refund for the whole ticket price, they have sent me a travel voucher which can't be used online!!

I always buy cheap advance tickets online for my trips & these vouchers can only be used at manned ticket stations or via their telesales team & as far as I'm aware it's only possible to purchase advance tickets online, or am I incorrect on that one & I can use this voucher to buy a advance ticket from either a manned ticket office or via their telesales team?

I find it really annoying when you get people talking loudly in the quiet coach, I always travel in the quiet coach & everytime I find the quiet atmosphere ruined it's never young people but oap's that decide they have to shout when talking to the person next to them!
