1  Journey by Journey / London to Kennet Valley / Re: 5:58 Newbury to Paddington yesterday morning on: November 29, 2011, 12:31:34
Thanks bignosemac, sounds a cogent reason.
Can't say it was very welcome for those of us on the train, having to get off at a freezing Reading station! There seemed to be a LOT of delayed trains that morning...

Hi everyone,

I'm another new arrival to this board. Having browsed it as a guest a few times over the last couple of months I thought I should sign up and start making use of the chance to communicate with fellow travellers/staff of FGW (First Great Western).

My name is Tony and I live in Newbury. I previously commuted for 4 years but then moved to London. After 7 or so years there I moved back to Newbury and have been rediscovering the delights of the daily commute between NBY» (Newbury - next trains) and PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains) for a year now. I'm an early bird (usually catch the 05.58).

Since starting to commute again, with the exception of the loss of the Thames Trains brand I haven't noticed much has changed to the service since 2000. One change for the worse I have noticed is when occasionally catching a later train home in the evening, all the post-20.30 trains now only go as far as RDG(resolve) and require a change for the last leg to NBY. Previously these trains went direct to NBY, albeit stopping at a lot of places. Does anyone know why FGW decided to abandon these?

Looking forward to making your acquaintaces and sharing insights into travelling on FGW.
3  Journey by Journey / London to Kennet Valley / 5:58 Newbury to Paddington yesterday morning on: November 29, 2011, 08:01:01
First-time poster.

Does anyone know what happened to the 5.58 from NBY» (Newbury - next trains) to PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains) yesterday morning? It was cancelled once it reached RDG(resolve).

I know there were problems on the line between RDG and PAD - PAD staff advised there had been late running engineering works around Swindon and some points failures around Slough but that would suggest delayed rather than cancelled trains?

Thanks
