1  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture in the United Kingdom / Unforgotten Hereos on: October 28, 2018, 16:07:31

Whilst shopping yesterday in Grand Central Shopping Centre I was reminded that British Transport Police (BTP (British Transport Police)) have two armed units: one in London and one in Birmingham. They protect us day in and day out without the recognition they deserve,
2  Journey by Journey / North Downs Line / Re: Helping cyclists or potential weapons for serious injury? on: October 28, 2018, 15:20:13
Don’t get me wrong, I think the advantages for cyclists outweigh the minuscule possibility of an accident. That said, with the huge increase in knife culture related to drug gangs, and a murder of nature occurring a mile from that station, i was merely wondering if other stations where these have been installed have scene any antisocial accidents as a result.
3  All across the Great Western territory / The Wider Picture in the United Kingdom / Re: End of Automated Station Announcements? on: October 28, 2018, 15:07:43
Excellent idea. Digby & Sowton station currently has a regular 'For their own safety, passengers are reminded to stand behind the yellow line' announcement. Which might be considered OK if said station actually had a yellow line. But it doesn't. Pillocks.

This problem also occurs at Blackwater too!
4  Journey by Journey / North Downs Line / Helping cyclists or potential weapons for serious injury? on: October 28, 2018, 11:15:55
At Blackwater yesterday, I noticed a new support area for cyclists: there was a bike pump and a column with several tools such as screwdrivers, spanner’s etc chained  to it. I have raised the following point with GWR (Great Western Railway) and BTP (British Transport Police):
“@GWRHelp @BTP Rather mixed feelings about the provision of the cyclist tools at BAW station. On the one hand, good in case of puncture BUT worried that screwdrivers could be easily snatched and turned into stabbing tools." Here's an example but not the actual one.

5  Journey by Journey / North Downs Line / Poor Adhesion on: October 26, 2018, 09:00:29
Leaf fall certainly seems an issue today on the North Downs Line. The pull away from Sandhurst on 2V50 was very slippy and additional time was given to stopping at Crowthorne. Considering the accumulated delay to this service today I can only summise that these problems were prevalent between Dorking and Guildford too.
6  Journey by Journey / Portsmouth to Cardiff / Re: Brightons gone again on: September 15, 2018, 21:58:22
Aren't the Brighton trains all run by the FGW (First Great Western) small depot based at Fratton? I can't see how issues of Westbury crews affect this?
7  Journey by Journey / Portsmouth to Cardiff / Re: Should there be seat reservations on the Cardiff - Portsmouth service? on: September 15, 2018, 21:49:45
Firstly I think a 158 / 165/6 are not long distance trains and considering the distance why have we not moved on to something more suitable. Would HSTs (High Speed Train) have gauging issues? They have SDO (Selective Door Opening)

Or could there be stopping services (as now) and fast services (Bristol, Bath, Westbury, Salisbury, Eastleigh, Southampton Airport Parkway, Southampton, Totton (to avoid capacity issues at Southampton Central).

Hopefully this would split passengers between commuters (defined as short distance) and long distance travellers. Equally Bath could up (pick up only / setting down only). Just some thoughts.
8  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Boundaries on: August 20, 2018, 17:18:17
There seem to be two types of ticket: NOT via Cheltenham and any permitted route. Guess I’d need the latter ?
9  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Boundaries on: August 20, 2018, 16:20:47
Very many thanks for this.
10  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Boundaries on: August 20, 2018, 15:44:43
Suppose I have a Freedom of the Severn and Solent. I’ve decided to travel from Worcester to Birmingham and I simply buy a single ticket for this part. However, if I want to then travel via Cross Country to Bristol, where do I buy my boundary ticket to ? CC is not routed via Worcester so it can’t be there, similarly my FOSS (Freedom of Severn & Solent Rover) rover has validity further both than Cheltenham Spa?
11  Journey by Journey / London to the West / SLEEPER VIA MELKSHAM TONIGHT on: August 19, 2018, 20:03:50
Is it usual for the Sunday night sleeper to be routed via MELKSHAM?

12  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / What the Dickens? on: August 19, 2018, 15:39:55
I am currently on the Severn Beach branch line for the first time. What are the great antennae-looking things as you look North between Redland and Montpellier?
13  Journey by Journey / Swindon to Gloucester / Cheltenham / Cancellations 1G14 and 1W01 on: August 19, 2018, 09:29:46
Things not going well today: 08:30 London Paddington to Cheltenham Spa (VIA Stroud) and 1W01 08:36 London Paddington to Hereford (VIA Cotswold Line) Both cancelled.
14  Journey by Journey / Heart of Wessex / Re: Heart of Wessex - not a clever Sunday or Monday start on: August 15, 2018, 20:46:01
This has been confirmed by a Westbury driver as their night shift. If the 165/6s need to go to Jersey Sidings, drivers are taxied to/from Mess room at Weymouth.
15  Journey by Journey / Heart of Wessex / Re: Heart of Wessex - not a clever Sunday or Monday start on: August 15, 2018, 20:39:37
It's probably similar to a SWR» (South Western Railway - about) NIGHT turn for Basingstoke crew who do the 01:05 Waterloo to Southampton.  The Driver is then on PNB (Personal Needs Break) until 04:52 Southampton to Waterloo (being relieved at Basingstoke on the up journey).
