1  Journey by Journey / Portsmouth to Cardiff / Re: Public Transport Rover Tickets in (greater) Wiltshire on: April 01, 2019, 20:09:54
After talking to Wiltshire Council I was told the following
Issues to do with funding
The bus operators don't receive enough incentive to compensate for offering such a ticket.

What is this obsession with giving everything a name actually all about. What happens when that storm kills do children view everyone with that name as evil. What happens if Trevor the train is involved in an accident & is beyond repair. Do we mourn Trevor and  say he left x amount of friends behind that Trevor was a lovely train.

5  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: Bus use by the over 60s on: July 21, 2018, 19:04:43
I would agree with some of Jeremy Corbyn's recent comments about a bus pass being pointless if more & more buses are being cut.

I also feel that for some excluding bus pass use till gone 0930 limits the days out that pensioners can have. Most bus users want to arrive at their final destination before lunchtime.  Not being able to use their pass before 0930 will put a lot of pensioners of traveling if they have to take more than one bus / travel a greater distance to reach their final destination. I live in Frome & the only way to get to Wells market on a Saturday is to take 2 buses & travel via Bath. Myself & fellow bus campaigner Lucy usually depart Frome at 7am that to  arrive in Wells roughly before 11am fortunately we are not of pensionable age yet.  With more possible bus cuts it will only make it harder to travel around using just one bus that's if you are lucky to have any at all
6  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: First to revise services in West Wilts on: April 20, 2018, 07:04:41
On the age profile of users, there will be huge diversity depending on the area served and time of service. Where I live in Oldfield Park the local services can be predominantly used by students (and not just the university buses), but at some times of day, most users will be the elderly.

Just out of interest, why are the number changes being proposed? (and such a radical change). What does the D represent - Devizes?

The D represents Discover.  This Bus Queen had a part in choosing the new brand name. First bus were looking for a new brand name at a customer panel meeting that I attended & I suggested Discover. My main reasons behind the name was that Frome has a Discover Frome website. The discover name will also tie in nicely with their existing Xplorer fleet after all what do you do when you explore you Discover. Hope you all love the new brand name as much as me & First bus.

I am also pleased to see that they have upped the frequency of buses for Frome. They have also given us a bus back from Sainsburys to one of our large housing estates. I cant wait to see this posh new yellow bus coming through Frome soon.
7  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: Thoughts on information feeds in the bus industry on: March 06, 2018, 08:08:36
It has been my pleasure to keep bus users updated about the weather/ bus situation. It also comes in very handy  being  a member of 7 FB bus user groups across Somerset & into Wiltshire. I have also had the help of a few  volunteers posting updates to our Someset catch the bus campiagn group. One of the volunteer FB posters being  a bus driver who couldnt get to work. I have also had a bus driver message me via FB to update me about the  bus operator that he works for.

I  assume that bus users would  want to find weather/ bus updates  all in one place. All i & others have been doing is sharing the bus operators info onto other FB pages. I have been sharing various updates to various pages so that users will be kept updated & keep looking for info on that page. It is a real pity that SCC(resolve) & other Councils don't share bad weather updates directly from the bus operors to a set page. SCC did post a weather update they had omitted The Buses of Somerset so not to helpful for bus users  living on their doorstep.

I always share information to my bus user group & any others directly from a bus operators page that way the information will be accurate.  I thank all of the bus operators for keeping bus users updated during the bad weather.
8  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: Nippy Bus (Somerset) folds? on: February 11, 2018, 11:26:29
The owner of Nippy buses must of been forced into a desperate situation to have reacted this way.  Could a simple chat to  his bank manger or even the council have kept him in business we will never know.
9  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: Faresaver on: October 15, 2017, 10:13:45
After B&NES reduced their funding for the 267 First will no longer accept Faresaver tickets on this service.
10  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: Faresaver on: October 15, 2017, 10:04:37
Hi Froome I am one of the campaigners who have been fighting to keep the evening 267 going. I can confirm that the evening service will continue  to operate up until April 2018.  Favbug are working hard to try & drive usage numbers up on the evening 267 & other bus services. One of the ways that we have done this is to produce bespoke timetables by areas which are easier to read. We produced bespoke timetables for Rode, Hinton Charterhouse & Norton St Philip last year which were delivered to every household.  The usage for the evening 267 is on an upward trend. Our group will be producing bespoke bus timetables again this year & will be including Beckington & Frome. All of the bespoke timetables will be delivered to every household for each area.

                                        FARESAVER                                       FIRST BUS
1 day ticket Adult         mTicket £7 on bus £7.50                  mTicket £6  Paper ticket £6.50
Weekly ticket Adult       mTicket £22 on bus £23                   mTicket £22  paper ticket  £23.80
Monthly ticket Adult      mTicket £80 on bus £85.00               mTicket £80 paper ticket £86.40

It is clear to see that Fareasaver are slightly more expensive on price for their 1 day tickets. Fareasvers prices are the same as First on mTicket price.  First bus are slightly pricier on their weekly & monthly paper tickets. I don't think to many commuters would mind paying an extra 80p a week or £1.40 a month to have the option to have a few drinks with colleagues after work.

Hopefully no operator would be that foolish to use an open topper on a route with overhanging branches

12  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: Trams for Bath on: September 30, 2017, 16:18:21
They are along Southgate. They have been their for decades & have never been used. Did B&NES run out of money or was the scheme scrapped for another reason.
13  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: Why you should ride on the top deck on: September 30, 2017, 15:46:28
Waiting for a branch to crash against the window is all part of the fun.
14  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Is it possible to travel from Somerset to other areas using one bus number on: September 30, 2017, 08:25:06
Just seen this article in the telegraph and wondered if this would be possible to do from Somerset or even neighbouring areas
