Dartmoor Railway welcomes D05 Preservation

D05 Preservation is delighted to announce that following discussions with both Dartmoor Railway CIC^» (Community Interest Company - about) and the Supporters' Association, we have been offered a great home for 47828.

The facilities and opportunities offered to us by Dartmoor Railway fit in perfectly with our plans to preserve 47828 but not park it. We hope to have it in service on their line as soon as possible.

Tiffany Arthurs, General Manager of Dartmoor Railway CIC says "Following the success of our Sulzer weekend and the similar engines in use on our Polar Express trains, 47828 seems like a perfect candidate to support our operation going forward".

"This is exciting news for the Dartmoor Railway. Our Volunteers and Association members are there to support the railway and to help in any way they we can. The great turnout of our team for the Sulzer Weekend certainly confirmed our support for such exciting projects and we look forward to working with the D05 Preservation Group when 47828 arrives at the railway" said Philip Wagstaff, Chairman of the Dartmoor Railway Supporters' Association"

47828 will be moved from Longtown to Meldon depot by rail where volunteers from all parties will commence their work on preparing it for service on Dartmoor Railway for this upcoming season. D05 Preservation would like to express our gratitude to friends of the group for their support and advice, and to DRS^» (Direct Rail Services Ltd, a national rail freight operator providing a range of services with its head office in Carlisle and depots at the South East, York, Crewe, Sellafield, and Scotland. - about) for their professionalism and assistance during the tender process.

This is due to a fault on this train.

To mark the final day of operation in Plymouth for First Devon we will be running several classic buses on traditional Western National routes from the City Centre to Yelverton, Plymstock, Torpoint and Modbury.

Plymouth Park & Ride service for Fireworks ^ Tuesday 18 August
We^ve received a few complaints about our service delivery last night. While we don^t wish to make excuses (we know there were a number of issues) we would like to try and explain a bit further, and of course say sorry.
Following the sale of the Devon business, a number of staff members who would have covered these extra evening services have left (when the extra bus trips were registered we weren^t aware of the sale). We^ve done our best to find other staff to cover the trips (and keep within driving hours regulations) but have struggled. Not good enough we know but we^re trying to be honest. Those who did volunteer were just that ^volunteers^ most were not getting paid to drive or supervise. Customers who were there will have seen that our staff had to deal with a minor few who were very rude spitting and swearing at them ^ we appreciate that people were angry and tired but there is never an excuse for such abuse. There were also instances of queue jumping which our staff did their best to deal with; again when the actions of a very few start to get threatening the safety of our staff is important to us. Of course the majority of our passengers were ^ although understandably frustrated ^ tolerant and polite and we thank them for their patience.
Lastly with the weather being so good last night (and forecast to be still raining this evening) it also meant that there were a lot more people attending last night than we would have expected.
We are very grateful to Citybus who helped clear the big queues at the end of the evening (and they have, naturally, sent us their invoice!)
So once again we apologise for how long it took to get you home last night. And hopefully this evening will run more smoothly ^ if a little wetter!
