They certainly need a buffet on the 9 car 802's If the Azumas▸ can have one then Hitachi can retro fit one.
One of the last HST▸ 's to go is IET▸ is IC91 1733 Paddington - Paignton - Newton Abbot-empty Plymouth-Laira.
It is overtaken by IC92 at Exeter and IC91 becomes the local stopping service to Paignton then back to Newton Abbot with usually only the first coach being used.
When it goes IET I wonder if it will be a 5 car 802 although it might be crowded to Reading and Newbury or will it run only to Exeter and the delayed Devon Metro 150'2 do the local service.
The 17.33 to pgn is now a 9 car 802 from last monday.

All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Groupsave Severn Beach to Temple Meads Tues 8th Aug

I have arranged for 26 people to catch the 1845 train from Severn Beach to Temple Meads, have an hour at TM‡, and return on the 2034 from Temple Meads. Can I buy Groupsave tickets tomorrow at Temple Meads ? Any advice welcome please.
Unofficial advise and may be out of date ... buy from an on-train conductor on a previous journey; they can issues one physical ticket for 26 people, whereas the booking office will give you 26 outbound and 26 return tickets, and you may end up with a long queue. This is not now the case, with the introduction of the new star mobile machine each individual will be issued the own tickets as instructed by the rail delivery group.

Forgive me if I am missing something, but I have yet to see a trolley in Standard Class on any GWR▸ HST▸ service to or from the Westcountry - and it would be pointless having one on any service out of PAD» after 4pm during the week anyway as it wouldn't get very far!
Standard Class trolley services is available between(sometimes Plymouth) but mostly Exeter St Davids to Paddington, currently only serving snacks and hot beverages(tea/instant coffee) with anything else needing to be ordered at the Buffet Car. Up services that I know include this are: From Exeter 08:41 (*from Bristol Temple Meads) 09:57 11:39(Cornish Riviera) From Paddington 11:06(The Mayflower) 15:06(The Cornishman) Just too clarify its the 11.33 ex Pad and its backworkings the 14.53 ex Exeter.

All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Bicycles on trains - new policy from May?
|

At the moment it is not possible to make bicycle reservations on all trains. On the smaller trains (sorry, I'm not sure of the class names and numbers, but eg the Cardiff to Southampton and Bristol to Malvern trains) there is no provision for booking ^ it's simply first come, first served and use the tippy seats. Which sometimes are also used for wheelchairs. There really needs to be better provision IMO▸ for both bikes and (especially) disabled passengers, but there isn't. But even where reservations can be made they're rarely compulsory. You can put a bike on an HST▸ without a booking, for instance. Theoretically, people who've booked have priority for the spaces (6 on an HST) but in practice that's completely unenforceable; once bikes are on, they're on. I don't know if train staff would have the right to remove an unbooked bike to make way for a booked one without informing its owner, but I'd like to think they wouldn't do that anyway. If there is to be enforcement, it has to be at point of boarding. (A couple of weeks ago I was stopped from boarding with a bike at BRI» because the train was already full of bikes. I caught the next one, which probably had an equal number, but we managed to jenga our machines in a surprisingly cooperative way in that space in the corridor so that people could still get by.) The point about commuting, a few posts above, is probably valid, but all my bikes on trains experience is at non-commuting times (the incident above was about 7 pm on a Tuesday) so it really is a larger issue than that. I do think luggage is relevant too: it's all allocated the same space on most trains. The basic problem is we need more spacious trains with better facilities for luggage of all types. I have it good authority that from may 16th 2016 bike reservations will be compulsory on all hst and 180 stock, no reservation no travel.!!!!!!

Journey by Journey / London to South Wales / Re: 1915 from London Paddington to Swansea

Or go back to the good old days and have the guard/train manager and RPO/ticket inspector (delete as appropriate) doing a check between Paddington and Reading which never seems to happen anymore as both have barriers. Yes they may only get to a handful of Reading tickets within the 25 minutes available, but do it every week and it will slowly ween out the offenders and I'm sure word will get around when a few penalty fares are handed out.
On a separate note having never caught that train on a Friday is there any mention of it not stopping at Reading, a small handful of people who regularly catch the 19:15 Monday to Thursday may not realise. (Not saying this is an excuse but may help deter the odd person)
Both trains are not advertised on the departure boards as not stopping at reading, but regulars know it does!!!!!

If I am not mistaken there is a "ban" on working RDOs at the moment as part of the dispute that caused the strike a couple of weeks ago. Seems to have the biggest impact on Sunday's.
The Looe line was running this evening or at least a 150 was in the bay platform at liskeard about 1910.
If it was in the bay platform, i would imagine it will be there overnight as it requires a guard too change the points, too bring it of the branch.
