Title: Bristol City College BS1 5UA to Taunton Richard Huish College TA1 3DZ Post by: Mookiemoo on September 30, 2011, 11:26:39 HELP!
At least four of my tutorials in the next year clas in terms of days - but not time. I have one course with tutorials in Bristol city college betweeen 10am and 12 noon and then another at said college in Taunton between 1330 and 1630 Is it even vaguely possible to get from A to B in 90 minutes - assuming I walk/jog or get cab or do I plan and advise the morning tutor (the easier course) I'll be leaving ahead of time. I also have the option of dirving into bristol parking somewhere (probably the station as I know where it is) and then walking/driving. For once I may have to accept the Henry Ford is the best method I know its not trains or FGW but we are mainly south west based me thinks Title: Re: Bristol City College BS1 5UA to Taunton Richard Huish College TA1 3DZ Post by: LiskeardRich on September 30, 2011, 13:30:44 Its pretty much an hour to drive,
Its about a 30 min walk from taunton station to college, so trains would be pushing it! Title: Re: Bristol City College BS1 5UA to Taunton Richard Huish College TA1 3DZ Post by: inspector_blakey on October 01, 2011, 18:56:21 There's a car park at Millennium Square, just off Anchor Road very close to COBC. Probably costs an arm and a leg to park there although it may not be much worse than Temple Meads.

Title: Re: Bristol City College BS1 5UA to Taunton Richard Huish College TA1 3DZ Post by: thetrout on October 02, 2011, 00:14:10 You'd want a 1A bus from Taunton Station for Richard Huish College (Not the 1 which operates the same route from the Town up to Ladymead Road, but serves the Blackbrook Estate and not the Holway Estate). Journey time varies depending on time of Day. But is rough about 15 - 20 mins. These run every half hour. But I recall reading somewhere you don't like Buses, but have posted this for anyone else who may find it useful ;)
Having done this route in the past for about 2 years, I can confirm that you cannot trust any XC service (Sorry RTS) Travelling south of Bristol Temple Meads to be even remotely on time! I recall more than several occasions having a second coffee in the First Class Lounge at Temple Meads because the 14:44 was 50 minutes late again! There is the option of an FGW service, but these are stopping services and take considerably longer to get to TAU. Sorry to say it... But I would drive it! You might also want to consider driving via Lane Estate / Blackbrook for Richard Huish College, as going through the town centre can take forever if it's busy. I never got a taxi into Taunton town centre when it was busy, you're just sat there in the cab watching the meter go up and up and up! >:( Title: Re: Bristol City College BS1 5UA to Taunton Richard Huish College TA1 3DZ Post by: Chris from Nailsea on October 02, 2011, 01:43:10 My personal opinion, Mookiemoo, is that you'd be best driving, rather than trying to juggle with train times and connections.
Sorry, but there it is: sometimes, the car is the better option. CfN ::) Title: Re: Bristol City College BS1 5UA to Taunton Richard Huish College TA1 3DZ Post by: JayMac on October 08, 2011, 22:10:29 And miss out on visiting Taunton Station?
Shame. ::) :P ;D Title: Re: Bristol City College BS1 5UA to Taunton Richard Huish College TA1 3DZ Post by: Chris from Nailsea on October 08, 2011, 23:23:30 I was there (Taunton Station) last Saturday - for the TravelWatch SouthWest meeting. ;)
No trauma - just a good day out, exploring the new main road construction thing they've built, between the station and the campus ??? :o Title: Re: Bristol City College BS1 5UA to Taunton Richard Huish College TA1 3DZ Post by: JayMac on October 08, 2011, 23:56:01 A campus? For Somerset College of Arts and Technology? My my!
My old home town really is going up in the world. ::) ;D Title: Re: Bristol City College BS1 5UA to Taunton Richard Huish College TA1 3DZ Post by: Chris from Nailsea on October 09, 2011, 00:03:12 Hmm. All of those new dual-carriageway roads were, quite frankly, devoid of traffic. I'm not convinced that 'highways development' was worthwhile expenditure, given the current economic situation. ::)

Title: Re: Bristol City College BS1 5UA to Taunton Richard Huish College TA1 3DZ Post by: bobm on October 09, 2011, 09:53:49 I've got a meeting in Taunton at the end of November and have got First Class return travel from Swindon and a night in a Premier Inn with breakfast and still got change out of ^70. Not bad considering I get a ^100 attendance allowance! Just fortunate the time of the meeting fits in with convenient trains and the details known well in advance.
Title: Re: Bristol City College BS1 5UA to Taunton Richard Huish College TA1 3DZ Post by: thetrout on October 09, 2011, 21:38:31 I lived in Taunton for 18 months... Traffic through the town is definately a problem. Especially with the Town Buses that serve the station! Quite often if you were cutting things a bit fine when connecting from Bus to Train, the time table said you could do it. But in actuality, you'd probably miss the train, with the bus having to stop to pick people up from the Bridge by Pound Stretcher and then from the Swimming Pool. It's also very easily to get held up in the traffic lights on route between the Town Centre and the Station IIRC they're are 4 different sets!
