Slightly embarrassingly, given the hours I must have spent at Didcot Parkway waiting for connecting trains to/from Oxford, I initially thought 3 was Westbury  :-[

8. Old Royal Albert Bridge Signal Box, North of St Budeaux, Plymouth.

Yes, it is ... i wondered how easy or hard that one would be as it's not taken from a spot where passengers usually go.

7 is Norwich. I think I'm right in saying there isn't a picture of Taunton in this collection  ;D

I'm afraid 7 isn't Norwich, but you're on the right lines. Your other statement is correct  ;D

0. Kentish Town?

Again, on the right line(s) ... but not the right station.

7. looks like Cambridge to me. Not sure if that caonpy's unique to Cambs, but I do recall admiring it several times on visits to that fair city.

I can see the similarity (and it's a good guess seeing as I'm in Cambridge at the moment) but I'm afraid it isn't.   You *are* in the correct region and an ex-Great Eastern station.

7  I reckon could be Stowmarket.

Could have been .... but isn't.   Gosh - are there really so many stations in East Anglia that look like this?

There have been three close guesses ... one's less than a mile off, one just three stations out, and another very much on the right line.  Feel free to have further educated guesses, anyone!

9 is somewhere with  Stadler unit, note central power car, would say Germany but catenery doesn't look right.

I couldn't *quite* see how Google Earth would have helped.   But now that we're 24 hours in, all's fare in sorting out the remaining pictures - two of which I had expected to go quite quickly ... very much FGW territory ...

Wonder if 9 is Holland. Arriva have 99 Stadler units running there!

Yes ... No. 9 is indeed in Holland - it's Venlo, right on the German border in fact.   To clear up some of the more difficult ones ... number 0 is Elstree and Borehamwood.   And that leaves just no.s 2 and 6, both of which are in the heart of FGW territory so someone should know  ;)

Is 2 and HST on diversion via the line between Chippenham and Westbury (you know the one that has a lousy service and some great supporters)

Indeed ... it is.

A London to Somewhere-in-the-South-West service has just left the London to Bristol via Bath line at Thingley junction, and is wending its way along the Swindon - Chippenham - Trowbridge - Westbury route.

Possibly stupid suggestions...

But I reckon 6 is either Westbury - taken from Slag Lane Bridge.

Just North of Trowbridge, Where the junction for Melksham is ;)

Neither of those (in fact an earlier answer was very close).  As a further hint ... this location could indeed be very significant for the TransWilts;  I took the photo on Sunday 25th September, late afternoon, risking life and limb to do so but not breaking any railway (or other) byelaws.

Has there been a correct answer for 6. yet?

6 is Hunts Mill road Wootton Bassett, signals coming from Chippenham direction.  I can see why you took your life in your hands!

Yes, it is ... also known as the "Skew Bridges" on the A3102 from Wootton Bassett to Lyneham.  The bridge over the South Wales line has a footpath on it ... which runs out just as the quite-busy road wriggles over the bridge over the Chippenham line.    It's almost as if the footpath is waiting to lead down to platforms on either side of the line here - the line was originally broad gauge and there does appear to be space.  A resited WB station here would allow TransWilts trains to stop clear of the South Wales line, so that they could be picking up passengers for Swindon and beyond while the express via Parkway roared past then follow it, and similarly they could be doing station duties on their way out from Swindon, leaving the South Wales line clear for a following express.  TransWilts Rail commissioned studies have shown this to be within line capacity, even when looking at the trains with the slowest acceleration (153s and 125s) but measured against the service frequency planned for when electric trains are running.

I was close then.  Only been there the once - I went up to Wootton Bassett for the penultimate repatriation through RAF Lyneham and afterwards wallked along the road to the bridge.
