Title: Trees and their roots Post by: JayMac on August 27, 2011, 11:50:54 (Heterograph of 'roots' obviously ;))
Is Three Oaks to Four Oaks valid via Sevenoaks? ;D Title: Re: Trees and their roots Post by: grahame on August 27, 2011, 12:54:36 Yes - valid route ;D :D
Title: Re: Trees and their roots Post by: Chris from Nailsea on August 27, 2011, 23:36:03 ... except via Lavington (http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/coffeeshop/index.php?topic=7092.0), obviously ... ::) ;D
Title: Re: Trees and their roots Post by: grahame on August 29, 2011, 18:37:27 On the same basis ... is Portsmouth Arms between Portsmouth & Southsea and Portsmouth Harbour?
Title: Re: Trees and their roots Post by: JayMac on August 29, 2011, 19:16:31 I'm pretty sure you can't make Par from Golf Street to Denham Golf Club though.
Title: Re: Trees and their roots Post by: bobm on August 29, 2011, 21:41:22 Cross Gates to New Cross Gate via Crossmyloof?
Title: Re: Trees and their roots Post by: Chris from Nailsea on August 30, 2011, 22:50:12 Would anyone care to arrange at least four of the Newtons on a valid route? ;) :D ;D
Title: Re: Trees and their roots Post by: inspector_blakey on August 31, 2011, 04:42:46 Off the top of my head, haven't checked this one, but I reckon you could travel from Newton St Cyres through Newton Abbot, then up through Birmingham and Manchester on your way to Newton (Lanarks), making a small detour and taking in Newton le Willows on the way north.

Newton St Cyres to Newton Abbot would be invalid. Newton St Cyres is north of Exeter St Davids, on the Barnstaple line, so going to Newton Abbot would be the wrong direction! Title: Re: Trees and their roots Post by: Tim on August 31, 2011, 13:56:08 don't forget Newton (for Hyde) on the Hadfield/Glossop branch from Manchester Picc.
Title: Re: Trees and their roots Post by: bobm on August 31, 2011, 13:56:27 There's always Maiden Newton if that counts....
Title: Re: Trees and their roots Post by: JayMac on August 31, 2011, 14:13:21 ....and Newton Aycliffe, Newton-on-Ayr, Newtonmore and, pushing it, Newtown (Powys). ;D
Title: Re: Trees and their roots Post by: Chris from Nailsea on August 31, 2011, 16:25:42 Newtown (Powys) is not permitted, under the Tudor Court Rules. ;)
Title: Re: Trees and their roots Post by: Tim on August 31, 2011, 16:39:51 If we are playing Tudor Court Rules, surely Newton Abbot is out of bounds due to plague?
Title: Re: Trees and their roots Post by: inspector_blakey on August 31, 2011, 20:01:28 Newton St Cyres is north of Exeter St Davids, on the Barnstaple line, so going to Newton Abbot would be the wrong direction! Fudge. You are of course correct. For some reason in my sleep-deprived state last night I had it in my head that Newton St Cyres was on the Gunnislake branch. No idea why. Title: Re: Trees and their roots Post by: Chris from Nailsea on September 01, 2011, 01:48:22 If we are playing Tudor Court Rules, surely Newton Abbot is out of bounds due to plague? Fair point: and so is Maiden Newton - for the same reason! ;) :D ;D Title: Re: Trees and their roots Post by: bobm on September 02, 2011, 00:24:10 As a bit of trivia which BBC Comedy of years gone by had an episode filmed at Maiden Newton....

Total stab in the dark: To The Manor Born? Title: Re: Trees and their roots Post by: JayMac on September 02, 2011, 01:50:29 You're not going to believe me, but that was a total guess, honest. But a bit of Googling (after posting my answer - internet, wonderful thing ;)) and I think I'm right:

Title: Re: Trees and their roots Post by: Timmer on September 02, 2011, 06:20:47 There are a couple of times during the episode of To The Manor Born that was filmed at Maiden Newton the signs on the platform can be seen; particularly at the end just before the credits roll.
edited for spelling Title: Re: Trees and their roots Post by: bobm on September 02, 2011, 07:24:24 Spot on. To The Manor Born it is.
